Focus Vacuum Pump

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife's Focus 1.8tdci 2003 has oil leaking from the union with the pipe on top of the vacuum pump. I have replaced the O ring but no change. I taped PTFE tape round the thread and the top of the pipe flange which solved it for a bit but now there's a leak again.

I am thinking of just getting a new pipe but was really wondering, if it's a vacuum pump should there be oil in there to leak out? Or is something internal in the pump shot and I need a new pump?

Thanks

Russ

Hi, Russ, as the vacuum pump is fitted to the head and works off the cam, oil get in to the pump from the cam for lubricant, I think that their is small tube on the bottom of the pump, to drain the excess oil that gets in the pump, I may be wrong its been a long time since I have had a look at a mk1, its a bit of a long shot but worth a look.
