Activating Cruise Control - 1.6Tdci?

Featured Replies

So, I've fitted the cruise wheel, activated cruise in the HEC and GEM...but can't access the PCM with ELMConfig.

Just read a post from over a year ago the PCM access wasn't possible on 1.6s...has this been updated since?

I think I can guess the answer...

Which version of ELMconfig are you using?

On the latest versions of the ELMconfig software some versions of the 1.6 TDCI are supported. If I remember correctly the 1.6 TDCI was never available in Russia. This makes it difficult for the author of the ELMconfig software to test the program functionality on the 1.6 TDCI.

On the PCM tab of the ELMconfig program you have to select the correct type of PCM first. If your exact type of PCM is not listed it is currently not supported.

In many cases diagnostics of the PCM does require an ELM327 interface which supports a higher Baudrate. Some interfaces which do not support higher Baudrates are not suitable to diagnose the PCM (and some other functions).

Hmm, ok, that's a chance at least! I'm on 0.2.10, not sure what the latest is?

The latest version of ELMconfig is 0.2.15.

Version 0.2.10 is an outdated version which was released in September 2013.

Well I'm in the car now (wifi ftw...I remember the days of dial up haha!).

Using the later version of ELMConfig I seem to have accessed the PCM and written the cruise control function to the PCM.

Just waiting 5 minutes to try another radio code as it locked me out earlier lol then can test if the cruise upgrade worked! :D

Still no cruise control. :(

Have activated in the PCM, GEM and HEC but dash light doesn't come on when switching on, and nothing happens after. Not sure what to try now.

It works!! :D

Basically I'd saved the GEM file but forgot to write it. Went back after doing the PCM to write to the GEM thinking the order wouldn't be important.

I waswrong lol. went back on today, removed cruise from the PCM and wrote that, then added cruise afain and re-wrote. It works perfectly now! Thanks for the help Wilco. :)

Nice. You are defineately going to enjoy the Cruise Control system. Personally I find it a bit strange that the Titanium X did not have Cruise Control as standard. On the Dutch Titanium version it actually was a standard feature. Even some lower spec versions came with Cruise Control as standard.

I retrofitted the original Cruise Control several times on a Focus MK2/MK2.5 but never on a 1.6 TDCI.

Next month I am going to retrofit the original Cruise Control to my Focus MK3. Retrofitting Cruise Control to the Focus MK3 is even easier than retrofitting Cruise Control to the focus MK2/MK2.5.

Yeah, I thought it strange that it wasn't standard on the Titanium as well. I've had it before on other cars (Golf, Vectra, Avensis) and do enjoy it very much! Hopefully it'll give me a few more mpg on the motorway as well.

The speed limiter on the Mk3 is even more useful! especially with all the 40 and 50's on the motorways with average speed cameras every 3 inches along them

Coming from a Land Rover, I find it all too easy to end up north of 80, Stick the limiter on 75 and problem solved for the open motorway
