Do I need the USB for Bluetooth audio streaming to work?

Featured Replies

Hi all, just taken ownership of a brand new Fiesta. It has the bluetooth kit in it but does not have the USB socket.

I also own an iPod Touch 2G, with the 3.0 firmware and therefore bluetooth audio (A2DP) enabled.

I have managed to pair it with my car, and the car display comes up with 'Audio Input' or similar (the same one you get for AUX), and the iPod says that it is streaming to 'Ford Audio' and is playing music, however I can't hear anything...

I just noticed from another thread that I might've needed to get the USB option, which sucks.

Can anyone confirm this or suggest anything else that I should try?

I'm no expert but I think you do.

Like you, I specced bluetooth with the aux socket because I never thought (until it was too late) that I really wanted a USB socket; I needn't have burnt all my music onto cds--I could have just plugged my stick in!!

As on previous threads, I don't believe retro fitting of the usb socket is possible......

Aww, that sucks. Might be worth me burning everything to CDs, since then you get the benefit of being able to control it with the wheel controls, voice control etc.

Time to look for a good deal on a pack of 100 CDs, I think.

Yes, that's definitely the way I'd go--it'll give you the same result in the end.

Next time I'll know to spec USB too!! ;)

Yes wish I ordered mine with the usb, I'm so annoyed with myself. My last fiesta was fitted with a JVC radio and usb socket build in. Had all my music on 5 SD cards. A lot easier to use and a lot less space.

I wouldn't mind if MP3 cds didn't skip all the time! Is there a fix for this yet? The fact that it does this makes me wish I had USB even more!

Just had a play with my MP3 player and the aux cable. My player is a creative zen and it has a slot for a SD card, It can play music from the SD card so no need for a usb slot.

Surely it would've been Ford's decision to cut off audio streaming on the non-USB models.

I'll manage with the aux connection for the moment. Trying to work out the best place for my iPod when it's plugged in now!

There is a fix. My local Ford service centre knows there's a fix and I am booking my car in to get it sorted.

If you have an Ipod shuffle then stick ya fav 200 tracks on it plug into the Aux socket (if poss get a cable with a 90 degree end on it as this will keep it away from the handbrake) then clip it onto ya shirt then knowing where the skip button is on the Shuffle you can easily skip tracks without taking your eyes off the road and it holds more tracks than a CD !!!!!!

Good idea that man but...........and here's the big but..............I haven't got an Ipod shuffle!!

Still a good idea though and thanks! ;)

Has anyone managed to get Bluetooth streaming to work with an iPhone 3.0 without the USB option?

I tried playing around last night and the Bluetooth and phone part work fine but I can't seem to get BT Audio to appear as an option anywhere?

abx did you find out what the fix was and did it work?

Thanks

Fortunately I did ask before I ordered mine to find out if I needed the USB to be able to use the voice control of the iPod

Although I am tempted to get a nice green USB stick to match the car and so as not to need the £20 Y Cable!
