Coolant Leaking After Service

Featured Replies

Hi All

First post , so hello :)

I have a 2005 petrol 2.0 litre auto estate , i had it serviced last week , and the mechanic said the coolant tank just had pure water in ,so refilled it with appropriate levels of anti freeze

Left it 2 days , drove 4 miles to work , and got screeching at high loads (60mph and when demister was on) , got to work and coolant dripping everywhere underneath with a burning smell from under the bonnet

Mechanic comes back out , says the water pump needs replacing , it has a `hole in it` , but surely its a case of if the seals perished to the bearing rather than a hole in the pump ? , i also was told it could be the alternator belt?

Basically would like to know

A) How long can i drive it , like this

B) Forearmed would be good before approaching a garage! so any advice welcome

Cheers

With a damaged water pump I wouldn't be driving it at all

Don't drive with a damaged water pump, I did this on an old mk5 escort and regretted it when it went fully. As it went in 2ft of snow and damaged the belt, so cost more to replace.
