Mooing

Featured Replies

Hi all. There is a ' mooing ' noise from the engine bay after I turn the engine off. It lasts for about 3 seconds. Not all the time but more often than not. No AC on. Any ideas?

Weird... I had the same fault but on my old Skoda Octavia (traded last year for current mk4 mondeo).... With the octy it ended up being the vacuum control unit (box under bonnet which controls the air/vacuum).... Cost me £150 to replace and after a year started doing it again ! That's when I part-exed for the mondeo!

Hi Ralph. Thanks for the reply. Yes I have read that ' mooing noise on switch off is common on Skoda/ VW/Seat forums but is generally considered as normal. Since I posted the topic I have viewed a video on YouTube of a mondeo owner who was having the same problem on his car. He said that the noise is normal when the turbo vane actuator valve is operating. If there is no noise on engine shut off then this valve is faulty. The video lets you hear the noise on engine shut off and then shows the faulty part. The trouble I have is that most times this is the case but occasionally there is no noise! As there has been the lack of response to this topic I am still unsure if this is normal. On the assumption that it would be normal I suppose I expected replys saying so. Another reason why I am unsure is there does not seem to be the surge of power when you put the boot down although the car performs well. As I have the best part of a year warranty left ( for what it worth ) I intend to take it back to the ford dealer where I bought it and hope for some response.

I've just seen that same video on YouTube and that noise coming from the mondeo is EXACTLY the same as the one from my old skoda!

Btw the vw/skoda/Audi/seat group has such a good reputation but my old Octavia was nothing but trouble. 2008 1.9 tdi which I had from 55k to 95k. The air con would empty itself every 4-6 months. I refilled it 4 times in 2 years of ownership. No one could ever find a leak even with dye added to system. Front suspension always knocked as front drop links seemed to be made out of paper mâché... I renewed them 3 times...Add to that the "mooing" which cost £150 to fix but returned after a year, as well as headlight bulbs that blew every few months I was glad to get rid!
