Timing Belt Renew? 2010 1.8 Tdci ?

Featured Replies

Anyone know the correct cambelt change for my 2010 "60" reg 1.8 TDCI Zetec mk4 mondeo? Currently has 52k on the clock with original cambelt.

Hi,

Whilst I was looking around to buy a car I spent a bit of time researching this and I came across an article on another forum but I'm not sure about the rules in regards to linking to other forums so here's a quick summary (if you type in "Mk4 Mondeo Diesel Timing Belt Facts" you might come across the article).

October 2007 and onwards the 1.8TDCI engine actually has 2x belts, one which drives the fuel pump (its built in a cassette and I believe its submerged in oil), the other drives the cam shaft from the fuel pump.

Fuel Pump Drive BELT - 10 years/125,000miles.
Fuel Pump Drive CHAIN - 10 years/125,000miles.

On my car I have a stamp in the book at 97k miles which indicates that this was done, however I have no further information as if this included both of the belts or just one, it seems there is some pretty mismatched information and many garages were not replacing the cassette belt (at least this is what is indicated by posted on forums etc..).

Since my post I have asked my mechanic (independent ford specialist) and he says same as you though recommends it being done earlier than the 125k ... Better around 80-90k

He also says that the belt that is submerged in oil is a real pig of a job to change and many garages "overlook" this part of the job due to its difficulty!

I guess I will get it done in another year or two!
