Won't Start After Jump Starting Another Car.

Featured Replies

I have a 2002 Zetec S 2.5 and this morning jump started my girlfriends car. After attaching the jump leads i went to start my car but it won't start. I get a single click and then nothing. everything else still seems to work, radio, heater fan etc, and nothing is showing on the dashboard. I have disconnected and reconnected the battery but still nothing. Any ideas? Thanks.

How did you connect the jump leads you only connect the live to the battery the earth needs connecting to the earth point on the engine, failure to do so can result in electrical problems

Have you checked the fuse for starter motor? If you're lucky maybe it's just blown?

Thanks for the replies. I tried it again about an hour later and it started. I must admit I didn't connect the jump leads correctly. It probably upset the immobiliser or engine management system and it took a while to reset itself. Thats my guess but I'm certainly no mechanic. Anyway thanks again.

It is strongly recommended to never jump start from one car to another as modern cars have way too many delicate electronics and sensors that are easily damaged by misdirected power or surges.

Donor cars can easily fry their fuses or an expensive ECU which then results in a lot of expense and hassle.

I personally carry a booster pack, they are currently very reasonably priced in Halfords-

i'm having trouble finding a booster pack capable of jumping a 2.2 diesel

they all seem to do up a a 2.5 petrol or a 2.0 diesel

i seen a couple on machine mart but i think thy was around 90pounds+

I know that pack is only officially rated to 2.0 cars but looking at customer reviews some have used it on 2.5 and above with no problems.

Thanks. I'll certainly be looking at getting a booster. My car really didn't like jump starting my girlfriends car. It was probably a one off occasion though as she has been off work for a month afer an operation and her car has just been sat there but I'll have a shop around.
