Forscan - Strange Readings

Featured Replies

I've recently used ForScan to see if I can figure out why I'm getting a lumpy/vibration in 5th gear when accelerating.

I recorded about 20 minutes data last night but upon reviewing it, I can see some odd values, notably the alternator output voltage drops to zero a few times. Also the average distance between regeneration falls to zero 7 times during the trip and that cannot be right.

I'm using a bluetooth ELM327 device connected to a laptop on the passenger seat and no power saving is activated so I cannot see any reason to lose the signal/connection.

Just wondered if other people have the same experience. If you'd not tried it, I'd recommend it as it's free and will allow you to read and clear fault codes but also has some other cool features like manually invoking a DFP regen. I've not tried that yet though.

if the alternator is dropping to zero, depending on the time period it should show the battery light.

You could possibly have suffered a brief dropout of the bluetooth connection, did you record any other data at the same time that was still constant? and how many values are you monitoring at the same time?

For the alternator, check the wiring connection - it could be as simple as a loose connection, or you may find a single bad wire that just needs tidying up. it could be indicating a bad alternator.

I don't see any battery light mate, and all other values appear to be normal/active at the same time the voltage drops.

You may be on the right line with the alternator being the culprit though. This morning the battery was dead and all I got was a load of flashing lights on the dash and the sound of dozens of relays all clicking happily away to themselves.

Removed battery for a 2-hour charge, stuck it back on and it's going again. All seems to be ok so far but I noticed that the automatic windows lifter doesn't close the windows with one-touch. On all four windows I have to hold my pinky down on the switch to close them. They do open on the one-touch though.

Just seems to be a growing a list of little problems to deal with on this car. :(

Don't worry about windows that always happens when the car is disconnected from power they just need resetting. As for the battery make sure you secure it in place and the terminals tightly, I reply ed my battery and it wasn't tight as a drum so it didn't charge properly and caused a few niggles.

Thanks for the reassurance mate.

How do you reset windows, ForScan?

After the battery has been disconnected it is necessary to initialize each door window motor separately.

  1. Press the power window control switch close button until the door window is fully closed and hold the button in the close position for a further second.
  2. Release the power window control switch close button and press again two or three more times, for one second each time.
  3. Press the power window control switch open button until the door window is fully open.
  4. Briefly press the power window control switch close button to the second detent and release the button.
  5. If the door window does not close automatically, repeat the complete procedure.
  1. Repeat the door window motor initialization for each door window motor.

Top man, appreciate that.

No worries, should sort the windows at least. FYI I removed entirely the battery box, it makes working on the battery a lot easier and whilst it may look less pretty I would say it'd worth doing.
