Sound Deadening Doors - Do I Need The Membrane Still?

Featured Replies

Glad to see others using Silent Coat. I used it in my stereo install and it made a huge improvement in sound quality. A good side effect was that the road noise at 120km/h dropped by 5db.

Here is a link to some pictures and thoughts of Silent Coat.

To the OP: Are you going to get new speakers in? If so, highly recommend Focal as a brand but they will need to be driven by an external amp to get the most out of them :)

Must admit my car is beginning to creak and groan at the centre console... I wonder if this would help.

Just finished my entire car. 4 doors using 8 sheets and I'm impressed. Still 2 sheets left. T

Defiantly a noticeable difference in the audio quality, the bass is deeper and on high volume the vibrations are seriously reduced throughout the entire door.

Applied some to the back of the door card around the speaker grille as well.

Will be buying some more of this. Can't wait to get the car out this evening on the Dual Carriageway to test.

Amazon Uk has it for the cheapest price with free shipping.

Done a few trips in the car at 70mph since doing this yesterday. Noticed a huge difference, particularly in the quality of the sound produced by the speakers.

Door cards no longer vibrate excessively with heavy bass and I can honestly hear a reduction in road noise produced from the doors.

Just ordered some more to install around the vehicle and also double coats some of the existing material. Well worth £14.99!

The midbass is more present once the Silent Coat is applied. And yea, it's nice to have a quieter ride at motorway speeds. Less fatiguing as well.

Do consider removing the boot lining and applying the product in the wheel well, over the wheel arches and areas around the trunk. It will further enhance sound quality.

Also, consider doing the floor of the car. If you want to further reduce airborne noise, a barrier material is the next step after the sound deadening. Something with a sandwich of Closed Cell Foam and Mass Loaded vinyl I gather from my research could be used. E.g Dodo Pro Barrier or Stinger

Out of interest, how much did you apply in the wheel well?

Just used my last two sheets in the wheel.

I don't remember how many sheets in total. I got the bulk pack with 42 sheets and I have about 8 sheets left. That covered the front doors fully, rear doors partially and trunk like in the pictures below. I didn't get to do the floor yet. That's the next step along with the noise barrier above.
