Help! Exhaust Is Hanging And Sitting On Rear Axle!

Featured Replies

My rear exhaust seems to have come apart from whatever was holding it up and fallen onto my rear axle and now every time I drive, the exhaust knocks around on the axle making a rather unpleasant sound and I don't know what to do.

I had a look under the car and I was actually able to push the exhaust up a few inches, and where you can't usually see the exhaust in it's normal position, it is not very visible under the bumper.

I've taken some pics of the exhaust hanging and also pushing the exhaust up to its original position.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like the bracket has broken, you'll need to get it to your garage so they can sort it. I'd drive it incredibly slow if I was you though

Yup, as Connor said, it should have a hanger on the front edge of box that goes into rubber mounts and onto a bracket that's attached to the car.

On picture 2 and 3 you can see the mounting point that'll hold the rubber mount. Pic 3 shows where a 3rd mount may have originally been but I'm not 100% as I've never been under a mk6 unfortunately.

Yeah the rubber hangars are still there but the metal hook that fits in the holes seems to have ripped off the exhaust itself. Going to a garage this weekend but before I do anyone got any idea if this requires a new exhaust or whether it's a cheap easy fix. I don't want to be ripped off. :)

Yeah drive slow when I had my old fiesta this happened ended up blowing the exhaust of so yeah drive slow! New exhaust system only cost like 60 so should be fine!

If there's isn't any obvious damage (holes in the box) then you should be fine with just a new hanger and mount.

As above regarding the slow driving, especially on uneven road, potholes and speed bumps!
