Zetec S Alloys - Ride Difference Between 16" And 17" Wheels?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm a new member, I've got a 2012 Zetec S with the 17" Streetpack alloys. I don't know if it's a combination of the 17" alloys and the suspension setup on a zetec S but the ride quality is terrible compared to the standard fiesta on smaller wheels, it crashes over bumps. Does anybody know if it's better on the standard 16" Zetec S wheels?

Thanks,

James

16" should, theoretically be a bit better due to the higher side walls but I'm not sure it'd be much difference unless driven back to back...

Although I would be more than willing to swap wheels with you :P

17's are a trade off for looks and handling. Comfort comes 3rd in priority with the ZSE range.

It's hard to tell without driving one on different wheels back to back, as looking at the 16s it's not as though there is great deal more side wall that would make much difference with the firmer ZS suspension.

Yeah, I went for the wheels that look nicer on the car.. After 18 months of a crashy ride I'm starting to regret it.

I had a standard fiesta zetec courtesy car for a month, the ride was much better but the roll in the corners compared to a ZS was noticeable!

My Mrs has a 2012 1.6 Metal on 17's and that's crashy over bumps.

We also have 3, 2014 1litre ZS Ecoboosts and they are all on 17's and not crashy over bumps in the least.

The 16s that are on mine are fine, even with the 45 side wall. Can feel the difference compared to the mrs 14s but still isn't uncomfortable at all.

Thanks for your replies.

Yeah the newer models do seem better. I've driven a Black edition which has 17s, it's ride is considerably better. Ecoboost engine on that is also a gem!

Might give the 16s a go then, see if I can pick a cheap set up off eBay.

I have 17s on my zetec s and not all zetec s come with 17s its an option to have I chose the 17s and it seems fine over bumps, just don't hit a !Removed! pot hole I did and it didn't end well, it split the side wall on the rim. It only has 45s on do you think 50s would be better though ?

I hit a pothole recently at speed that broke something in my dashboard, there's a constant rattle now. Surprised it didn't damage the wheel!

Yeah I've just seen someone else's post about putting 50s on instead of 45s, I'll look in to that as well. Cheers

Let us know if you find out pal worth looking into

I have these on mine the 17'' when i had the car a few months ago ( x-pack up grade )it is a hard ride and i also have

hit some good holes, hard to miss at times but didn't touch the alloys.

The speed humps,i know what you mean but i just go slow but they will stay on as looks comes over my ride. :)
