Being a Ghia model is has the Sony head unit. I was under the impression that because of this it would have bluetooth but apparently not.

One thing I forgot to check however was that it had the DAB function. Do all these Sony units come with DAB as standard or is in an extra on some models?

And if it doesn't have it pre-installed is it a simple job of installing the DAB antenna?

stick your reg no into etis and it will tell you your build spec. Sony,s come with or without Dab

A Ghia is unlikely to have the Dab radio, titiniumX normally has it, and it require a head unit change and the installation of the required antennae check you build on https://www.etis.ford.com just enter your reg and get the full build spec, I found mine had its radio changed from OESpec

My MK 4.5 has D.A.B. & it's unimpressive due to iffy coverage.

The 2009/10 titanium has the Sony 6CD Dab unit along with Converse + plus Bluetooth/voice which is upgradeable to Usb and I find this an excellent unit.

What year is the mk4 ?

It's a 2008 Mondeo.

It has no mention of DAB on the Ford etis site so I'm assuming it doesn't come with it.

Are there two variations of the Sony unit so, one with DAB and one without?...I had thought that if it didn't come with DAB pre-installed it would be as simple as attaching a DAB antenna to the unit and it would work no?

Yes there are 2 models. You need the DAB head unit as well as the DAB antenna quite a costly job even buying the unit secondhand.

All of the Ghias come with Sony Head Units (unless it has been upgraded to the sat nav unit, I guess), but the early ones don't have DAB. The changeover was, afaict, sometime in 2008 (roughly August build date, so, when you take into account the time that a car may have hung around at a dealer, it would be a late 2008, or maybe even early 2009, first reg date for the DAB units???).

The DAB ones have DAB in big letters at the bottom left of the display, so it is pretty obvious when you know what to look for.

For some reason that I don't quite understand, the DAB ones have two antenna inputs; a DAB one and a non-DAB one. The base unit at head end of the antenna has two co-ax cables which go down to the HU (it's the 'why was this a better idea than just a single co-ax to the HU' part that I don't understand, unless it is just that it was a simpler mod to the HU, and they had to do that in a hurry, and with a minimal testing program; otherwise one lead would have seemed better).

On ford etis it says my car build was December 2007 even though it's registered as 2008 so that further confirms it will be the Sony unit without DAB fitted

Although I am happy with my sony dab, its still not without its problems, I still get areas when particular stations signals not available, and apparently the later Sony,s better sound quality than the earlier models, I do not think its worth the cost to upgrade for Dab facility alone but base it on better quality and other functions.

Yeah I agree. For the same cost if not less you can get those aftermarket head units with sat nav, BT, DAB etc so really isn't worth the money. I would have just about bought the DAB antenna if that would activate DAB but it doesn't unfortunately
