Inside Tyre Wear ?

Featured Replies

Could it be because of the camber set from the factory for all cars? I just checked my rear tyres and the inside is definite more worn than the outside by a few millimetres approx.

Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec (Mk 2.5, 2010).

Winter tyres have been on since early December, so 5 months (swapped today), I can see no abnormal wear to any part of the tyres. (Nokian WR-A3's).

  • 2 weeks later...

MOT yesterday and garage told me my front tyres were wearing and tracking needed doing,

This was no surprise as I hit a pothole 3 months ago, yet still drove fine to me.

Rear tyres were near new, so I asked them to put them up front for now, and I'll get a full set next year.

First drive on straight roads today and it's drifting off to the left, steering wheel looks a few degrees to the right when going straight,

so annoyed, I ended up with an off-centre steering wheel on my old Escort and it drove me potty.

Going to garage tomorrow, and fingers crossed they sort it, but it sounds like a pain on these Mk2.5 Focus'.

FIRSLY I strongly advise ANYONE that when getting your "tracking" looked at you really do need it to be used on either a HUNTER or JOHNBEAN geometry machine, 99% of small garages will not invest in £20-£30000 worth of this equipment.

FOR your front tyres to wear correctly you MUST have the rears set up properly (The Toe).

I have had my 2010 1.6 tdci nearly a year and the first thing I did was set up the geometry properly, when I put it on the HUNTER the rear was out as was the front, I have a straight steering wheel, no tyre wear and it drives straight and true.

feathering can happen to any tyre regardless of cost.

I have used the HUNTER for a good few years and the focus is by far the easiest to set up and adjust...Audi's can be a pig...

My local garage had a look at the tracking, they said it was spot on,

He didn't say what system they used but he did say it used a laser, but I'm sure they all do now.

They said it was the worn tyres which they moved to the back which where pushing me left, one tyre was slightly deformed too.

They were down to the legal mark in the tread, and I've wanted to upgrade them to Goodyear's anyway.

Going in tomorrow to have 2 Goodyear's fitted at the front, so the front set will go back on the back (not happy because they are cheap and noisy).

If that doesn't solve it, I'm taking it back everyday until it's sorted.
