Garage/barn Find

I would like the advice on my garage find.I have just acquired a Fiesta 1.8 XR2i 1992 mk3.Registered 01/08/1992

The car has not been used and kept in a garage for 20 years it has only 3300 miles.I have all

the documents and have not put the v5 in my name yet so that means only 1 owner. The car is in

near perfect condition but does have its problems which is,a very small 5p size dent on rear wing,

a mouse has got into it and has eaten a 5cm by 5cm hole in the roof lining.(mouse now gone).

The engine turns over but no start, possible bad fuel or the Ford alarm/immobiliser cutting in,(not looked into this yet). The brakes are obviously seized. My question to you all is should i sell as is with faults and dust or repair to A1.

Please don't offer me silly money for it as i know roughly how much it is worth,I am a mechanic so

i will and can do the work,i just want advise from you all as FORDs are just not my thing.

Looking forward to many replies.Thanks

My sister had one of those when they first came out, did'nt think they had an Imobiliser fitted ?

Nice find BTW.

It's a mk3 so it's not worth a huge amount tbh, I bought a mk3 Ghia spec many moons ago with just 47,000 genuine miles on the clock - for £100

But it is nice to hear about an unmolested mk3 all the same

Edit: gus you're right they didn't have an immobiliser, mine had an aftermarket key fob one though

It has a ford alarm fitted which looks like the old scorpion system so i assume it has a immobiliser built in.Not looked into it yet.

Looks good, apart from roof lining, is it just a case of recommissioning it back to road legal? I would do that if that is the case, you will make a good few quid. I would lose that graphic off the side too personally.

I know what you mean about the graphics, very boy racer, but if that goes, apart from possible damage (imprint into paint)will it effect the originality of the car.

If your planning on selling it later on and its not for personal enjoyment leave their and let the future buyer make the decision

Comparing it to some photos on the web the wheels don't look original and it should have blue coloured stripe running round the door/bodyside styling strip?

Yeh I was going to say wheels don't look original, my Ghia had xr2i alloys like these on

I remember when these first came out - Ford were offering free insurance even to teenage drivers, with inevitable results in several cases I knew of

I know what you mean about the wheels,i have the original broacher with the paper work and in that they are different and the trim is blue but faded out.The people i got the car from are in their 60s now so when they bought the car in their 40s i dont think they would have ordered it with graphs and different wheels so all i can think of is was a dealer special to sell,if you know what i mean.

They aren't the standard wheels it's a car worth sorting and putting back to standard factory finishes as that makes it worth top dollar as modified like eg escort cosworth devalues it one sold recently for over £50,000 completely standard 800 miles on the clock and modified ones are thrashed and higher mileage hence being worth less

They did indeed have a blue trim on the bodywork it was a distinction of it being 16v if I'm right by memory

£50,000? Okaaaay... I wouldn't give £50 for it, as let's look at the facts

It doesn't work

It doesn't have original graphics

It doesn't work

It doesn't have original alloys

It doesn't work

It's got rodent damage

It doesn't work

Shall I go on?
