Oil Leak

Featured Replies

Hi there. I've noticed an oil leak under the car when I removed the under tray. It looks fresh but been going for a while as it's built up. The car is a mk3 2.2 tdci. The oil in pic is sort of next to sump and in front of exhaust flexi pipe. Any ideas where to start looking, any common leak areas ??

Cheers

Have you filled up your oil recently?! Could this be overspill?

Failing that, i cant think exactly where you are talking about but is it near sump plug or oil filter? If not it could be the cam cover gasket gone and some oil is leaking out of that slowly dripping out!

No not filled up yet, was attempting an oil change wen I noticed it. The pic is rubbish tho lol but I think in the pic, the bolt on the left is the sump plug ?? If it's cam cover gasket, is that an easyish job ??

Yeah i dont think they are the most difficult things to do, its just important to make sure it is lined up properly.

I would do the oil change and make sure you change the sump plug and the o ring and see where you go from there.

Ok cool. Cheers for that. Oil change is penned in for weekend anyway. I'll have a good mooch while I'm under there then
