hi all,

i allready have a "free-flow" backbox on my fiesta to give it a better sound but its still very quiet to me.....so basicly my question is...if i remove the resinator/bafle (behind the backbox on the mk4) will it fail the MOT for any reasons?

It may fail on noise if it's excessively loud. Most garages won't check the noise level if it's not deafening. Dont take it to a main dealer and as long as it still passes the emmissions I don't think you will need to worry

Is emmissions compulsery now at MOT centers now?

i dont think the noise will be excessivly loud...should be okay.

Just out of curiosity has anyone ever done this before and just had the cat left on for emmisions purposes?

Ive never came across a MOT station that didn't do emissions. If the car fails emissions the car fails it's MOT.

Alot of people that do exhaust mods leave the cat on for the MOT then put a straight through pipe on and keep the cat until next year

well on the Ct front i wont acturly be technicly de-cating it as the cat is up front off the manafold downpipe and im only going to take off the resinator as the cat is quite hard to get to etc..

my system goes

backbox

all i want to do is cut the resinator so it will be:

Cat

Cherrybomb backbox

thats it.

Unless your cats knackered I reckon it would be ok. If your MOT is due soon I would just wait till then before taking the resonator out to be on the safe side.

na i dont think there is anything wrong ith the cat...i bought the car 2 months ago and the bloke put it though a new mot a week before i bought it...so its still got around 9-10 months left on the MOT front.

Well you've got 9 or 10 months before you need to worry then

yep

went out to carspares today and got some 2 48mm exhaust clamps for the new pice of stainless tubing that will be replacing the resinator.

anyway UPDATE:

chopped the resinator out....car sounds brilliant..so raspy :P

and as for the ram air it works a treat :P now with alot added low end as before i forgot to connect the head breather to the air box
