I have just bought a zetec 1.4 2006. It is my first diesel and while I am pleased overall, I am worried about a diesel fume smell in the cab from time to time. Is this a common problem and can it be corrected?

    it is common on the 1.4 for the injector seals to leak, so check for any signs of diesel around the injectors that could be causing the fumes.

    Notices more when stationary. Just opened the bonnet on tickover and noticed wisps of smoke coming from around the air filter box. Does that signify bad news?

    Do you have fuel heater (webasto/eber), and how cold is the weather been in there where you live?

    That might give nasty smell and wisps of smoke when stationary and wind blowing from just the angle.

    this is a month late, but i had the same problem with my 58 plate fiesta

    it turned out to the the injector leak off pipes and i was trading in the car a day later!!!!
