What's Your Ecoboost 125 Top Speed So Far?

Featured Replies

I've only hit 85 so far on a DC. How is it at 110? Does it struggle etc?

My old XR2 was really smooth at 100+ (quiet B road), i've yet to hit the same stretch.

B4176 aka the rabbit run.

my 100ps zetec felt really smooth up to 93...

... or so i've heard, not that i've actually hit 93 in my car or anything, no sir mr police man...

dont think many on here are going to admit to speeding, ive only ever done 70mph on motorway.lol

But of course, yea, none of us have actually done these speeds, we're just bs'ing, mr policeman.

Maybe we should specify in micro-fortnights :D

i didnt do 168 mph in my last car.

Neither did I :D

Some chance, XR2 (1.6, 96bhp) top speed = 112 but the 125 appears to be able to do 122.

I believe it, the way it hits xx is amazing.

This should answer a question, there is another video and it too stops at 200kph or (124mph).

Picking up my new ecoboost 125 titanium tonight :D and then fitting my spider tuning box tomorrow (depending on setting gives an increase to between 140bhp - 152bhp and much more torque). I have one of these tuning boxes on my Alfa Giulietta 1.6 Diesel and its top speed used to top out at 119 - 120mph, with the box fitted it topped out at 132mph or so I heard

So excited for tonight. Also I loved the sound the engine makes at mid-high revs, it's amazing for a 1l 3cyl engine, is the engine/exhaust noise pumped through the stereo like the ST versions?

^ the st pumps audio through the speakers?

that's a downer and a half

Ford's sound symposer doesn't use speakers, it is an air pipe, which carries engine noise in to the cabin, past all the insultation.

I might be wrong and it might be VW with their Golfs an Audi's that pump the sound in through the speakers, but I definetly remember reading articles about Ford doing something like pumping the engine noise into the cabin I think it was called the Sound Symposer on the ST models, I'm just not sure if they do it on all ecoboost engines and it's not always droning on it only happenes when you accelerate fast.

Either way the engine sounds great and I'm excited for tonight.

Knew it was something like that my comment was on hold for 20 mins before coming back and finishing it so I never saw your comment above before posting, Is this the case on all ecoboosts or just the ST?

I think it is just the ST.

Possibly the 1.6 and 1.5 Ecoboost in other cars like the Focus, too. But not 100% sure.

Like I said either way it sounds great in the cabin that it suprised me greatly during the test drive, so I'm happy.

130mph in 4th:))) well and truly flat

Obviously on a racetrack/airstrip. Terrific, how long to get there, what rpm?

the clio sport has a range of engine noises you can choose from to come through the speakers as you accelerate..

Renault always seem to have extra electronics to go wrong. Not to mention that they wanted ~£100 for a replacement door mirror glass maybe 10 years back.

I got to 115mph on a old airfield near where I live!

The only problem with these speeds is that if you're just looking at the speedo you're not getting the true speed. If you use a satnav or phone with a gps app you'll get a more accurate speed.

My top speed (132mph) in the Giulietta was using the satnav although the speedo wasn't far off as the speedo read 138mph (6mph isn't bad of a ofset at them speeds).

But as much as they may not be the most accurate really you should just use the cars speedo as thats what the manufacturers use for their claimed specs and what they fit the car with. Also would you go past a 40mph speed camera using your satnav reported speed if the satnav said 40mph and the speedo said 44mph :P

Yes, I've done this for ages and never got a ticket, but I'm thinking more about average speed checks. Once I realised how much Ford's speedos over read I learnt what the actual speeds were from a satnav, at each different speed limit. It works out easier to just add 5, althout at 30 that means you're probably doing about 32. Even so that's still slower than what 90% of people seem to do in a 30 zone lol.

Whenever I'm going though average speed checks on motorways I always do 5 above from my speedo and never had a problem.

Not the ones in front of me they don't

I'm usually lucky to get into 3rd.

^ lol yeah it's always when they're in front of you that they want to slow you down. And when there's a clear road ahead there's always someone tailgating behind you even though you're doing 30 (ish).

Easily. A 40mph speed camera will be set to about 46/47mph. If you reckon on being under 50 by your speedo, there won't be a problem. In any limit of 40 or more a simple rule is to be less than 10 above. Even on 60 limits with camera vans. So I use the limit as the rough aiming point but have no worries about normal fluctuations. I don't understand why some people think they have go 10 below on their speedo.

I am not so sure about the rule of 10 in 30 limits. On a dual carriageway with no pavements I have tested a Truvelo at 39 (speedo) indicated. However, I believe that in areas with pavements and houses, there is absolutely no excuse and enforcement is nowhere near strong enough.
