Has anyone on here done the snorkel delete/removal?

If so is it worth doing?

  • The mpg will fall because you cant help giving it a bit more stick to listen to the lovely induction noise! I like the amplified dump valve/blow off hiss too!:)

  • Or just buy the K&N E-9289 filter as i did for £54 delivered off Amazon, use the standard lid which fits fine and save £70 instead of buying the 57s-4000 kit which is a E-9289 filter with a nice r

  • Hmmm tempted to buy that but just ordered the E-9289 of Amazon and will see how it sounds and performs first. Can the lid just not be left off altogether? Or will this cause heatsoak or other problems

Not sure what you mean Jon?

If you google "snorkel delete" it will explain all.

Hi Jon, I did the snorkel delete yesterday not really noticed much difference apart from sound and a slight better response. Fuel economy wise I'm going on a long run East in the morning.

Thanks Ryan, at least it makes a bit of difference I suppose, let us know how you get on with your mpg run!

Also does the snorkel just pull off or did you have to remove that one bolt/fixing at the top? I had a go with mine today, it was coming away but didn't want to force it. Then tried popping the fixing out but couldn't get my hand underneath to catch it, and didn't want to lose it! So how did you do this please?

I had snorkel delete for a few weeks when my slam panel was in the body shop along with other engine bits being colour coded,

It did increase response on the stock induction system setup also reduced my MPG by 4km less per litre

I'm personally against any sort of directly forward facing scoop because of rain and puddles,

The induction box with out the snorkel has the potential to scoop up a lot of rain water,

If fitting the K&N57s induction filter or complete setup there really is no need at all to perform snorkel delete,

Because 90% of induction will be fed straight through the additional side port on the filter,

Also being positioned on the side of the induction housing its not in direct firing line of rain and puddles impacting on the front of the vehicle,

If enough water gets in to the induction its the equivalent to driving the engine in to the Sea in terms of flood damage.

OK enough said as that's kind of put me off the idea now, although there is mixed reviews on this.

The snorkel is quite high up and not in front of any open vents so....

Well had the full 57s kit on for a few weeks now and would say the pick up is definitely stronger as is the mid range, car feels like it really wants to pull. I'm have noticed mpg has fallen by 2-3 mpg, could just be me pressing the right pedal a bit further. Even on a diesel it sounds good and quite like the intake whoosh. Yes it's expensive compared to just the filter but it looks nice under the bonnet, if you have the cash I'd recommend it.

That's true, once you get over the sound, your mpg pretty much evens out.

I love mine

+1

Finding the same here with mine fitted,

Drop of 2km per litre on fuel, was getting 23.1km per litre with the Green Cotton Performance induction filter fitted,

Now getting 21.2km per litre with the K&N57s kit fitted but ive also got a bottle of Xado Injector cleaner in the tank which is boosting the cetaine aswell

"Danger to the manifold"

Today i really noticed the induction sound when the missus was driving through a built up street i could hear sound like someone was using a sand blaster or power hose, you know that loud air space sound  it was the focus

Ive also gutted dpf and 2.5" cat back duplex

Fitted mine last night and it does feel more responsive and sounds a bit better.

I was also looking into the snorkel delete all last night and was reading good things about this mod so I have just done it now.

I managed to remove it without losing any of the push pins which is quite tricky attempting it on your own, with this removed it will force more direct air to the filter and no water will get to the filter as there are 2 rubber flaps directly below where the snorkel was situated.

I haven't been for a drive yet (having a beer now!) but with a drop in k&n and the snorkel delete apparently it gives as good gains as the ram air kits, but most who are saying this have cut out the rubber flaps to force more air to the filter which I am not considering doing until I have been for a drive. I have had a good look and with the flaps cut out the water would have to travel vertical to access the induction pipes. From what I have read a lot of people have done this mod without any problems and got good gains.

I will see how the car feels tomorrow before I consider removing the rubber flaps...

Back off my long run! 300 miles with roof box with approx 35kg of equipment and boot with 80kg of weight and 3 of us in the car cruising at 70 MPH I was achieving a nice 52.6 MPG, without the roof box or stuff in the back and with me just on my own, I was getting 68.8 MPG at 70MPH and at 60MPH 84 MPG, I noticed I could hear the turbo spooling every now and again which I couldn't before, the pick up seems better especially when the engine is up to normal operating temperature, don't seem to have that crappy 1st gear lag I was getting before hand either.

I did the snorkel delete yesterday, only a 5 minute job. Cant say ive noticed any difference though as i already have an open ended K&N E-9289 filter which increases the air induction volume most likely cancelling out the snorkel benefits. Ive been reading about possible water ingress which put me off removing it until i found out that the ST doesn't have the snorkel fitted. It just has this part in the picture instead so i thought i might as well take it off!

Hello all.

Does anyone have an experience with the side hole jobbies on the 2.0TDCi engine? Rather interested in giving this a go.

I miss the induction roar. I had a metal conical mushroom cone thing on my old 1.6 petrol. It made a right !Removed! racket! :D

Hi Kye. I fitted a K&N 57i fully open cone on my old Mondeo ST TDCi and it sounded awful. It was just a weird sound and not at all like the nice induction roar you get on petrol models. Maybe the open end only kit i have might be a bit more subtle although still dont expect it to sound the same as you had on your old petrol car.

I've put the end rubber bung into the K&N 57S back today along with a replacement top cover (1st one was slightly deformed ) and the sound was back to a normal diesel sound and not a noisey one as if there was a hole in the exhaust.
