The one ive found for my fiesta 90ps.

Gains of up to 110ps and from 215 to 270nm

The Spider Box (this might have changed as mine was an older version and the buttons may be on the outside of the case now which is much easier) the one I have you just simply prise the top off (can be done with your finger nails) and you press the button on the inside to choose your desired setting then pop the top of the case back on.

The Perfomance Box, the buttons are on the outside of the box case so it's as simple as opening the bonnet, but once you have the setting you like and because it adapts to your driving what ever setting you choose, you'll likely never change it after that. Although the new bluetooth imode means you can instantly change the setting on the fly without lifting anything so eco mode for the best economy most of the time then when someone pisses you off you just click racemode and preboost and burn them off :P

Yeah thats good gains as I've found more torque is very important for a diesel (as gives good pull and needs less acceleration to get the same results which imporves economy), the Spider box for yours is 110ps / 270nm & the performance box is 121ps / 310nm.

310nm is a lot :O very tempted by this... ill buy one of the boxes this week.

2010, Is yours mk6 or mk7?

It doesn't matter too much but the one I linked to was for mk6 but their is a mk7 version. However it has the exact same increases, I just want you to pick the right version from the site in case there is a difference in harness needed.

  • Author

My car is the mk7

2008-2012 none facelift.

2010 registered 1.6 tdci

Okay here is the MK7 version so there's no upsets or delays having to wait for a new cable to arrive if the other was wrong.

Enjoy :D

Ordered and delivered. :) performance pack £262

Am I right in thinking this can be controlled by my phone? There aren't any notes in the instructions which say you can.

Where is the best place to mount the module in the engine?

Congrats they are a great well worth price now I must admit I was a sucker and paid the full 399 originally if only I'd seen if we could get any codes much earlier lol.

My belief is the app is only available for androids currently but will soon be available soon for ios phones. Try contacting catnash for more info, he is the first person to get one of the new bluetooth versions on the Focus forum and he's got his working, said it was easy after downloading the app from the app store, here's his post.

I put slot mine between the battery and the air filter (I believe thats what it is). It just sits in there nicely but for extra safety I got some industrial Velcro from Halfords and put some to the bottom of the box and some to the side of the battery. Hasn't moved at all in over a month and my Giulietta's is in a similar position and that hasn't moved in nearly 2 years :)

I've attached an image with a big arrow to show where :)

Thanks. Ill attempt the velcro route aswell then.

Fitting it wednesday this week. So ill update how i get on. Also fitting an egr blank and air filter

Luckily i have an android phone so thats a bonus.

Honestly don't ignore the 3 minutes leaving the car to running in idle and then the next 30 miles keeping it under 4000k revs at it's default setting (I believe it's set to eco mode on the new perfromance packs) while it configures and learns your engine. You can then stick it in any setting and have a great time after that :D

It'll definetly help get that bit more with the egr blank and air filter, I wonder how much more :D

With just 2 sensor inputs ( fuel & air ) how does the spider box '' learn the engine '' ?

I honestly don't know exactly, their site explains so much and I've found out other bits that I wanted to know by talking to them but that's how they explain it: it constantly monitoring things such as ambient temps, air/fuel quality & throttle input requirements and it makes intelligent decisions on how much to input to the engine, that's my understanding.

You definitely feel thy're not like a cheaper tuning box I've tried, as that just as soon as you fit it you gave you a bit more power all at once lower down then nothing extra at the top when you put your foot down but you got loads of black smoke from my diesel. However with the spider box you got no extra power for the first 15-20 miles then you just feel the engine loosening up and getting better and better bit by bit over the next 15-20 mies. It delivers power much smoother across the rev ranges for much longer afterwards (depending on the setting you set it too) and I've never had any black smoke in the last 2 years, my exhausts are no more covered they were before the box and the DPF still only does mini (5 min) regens maybe once every 500-700 miles like it did again before the box.

I'm sorry if I'm not explaining it very well but I'm no expert and this is all I know, I can only assume what they are saying is correct and it learns your engine and monitors/adjusting maps/settings to best suit your engine and your driving style as it seems to do just that, I don't know how to explain it other than that. They're obviously intelligent and not your cheap tuning boxes and over the last 2 years since I bought my first box they have improved and added more technology to them. It's probably worth asking them directly if you want to know more and look further into how they exactly work.

Thanks for your answer Michael :).

It's evident that the box adjusts / refines fuel & air input ratios, as that is where it gets it's information from, however as it's not linked to the E.C.U. or any other operational electrical input I fail to see how other vital operational parameters are monitored / adjusted.

So today. Went to fit the air filter and the spider box

Cant fit the filter as the MAF sensor is built into the box. So the cone wouldn't fit in around this.

ive found an adapter for about £20 online, unless anyone knows how anyone else has done it.

The instructions with the box weren't the best, the fuel rail sensor is actually at the back of the engine and i haven't got time this week now to mess around with that. So hopefully next week when i fit the egr i can do it all at once

I think I have all of the parts I need now. Had to buy a maf adapter. Although it has nowhere for the vacuum hose.

Been to Cornwall with very limited reception , just got back and the ecoboost engine is a great engine I must admit.

Back on topic is the issue that you can't fit the box and the new air filter at the same time? Just trying to get my head around things.

Sorted the air filter with some adjustments. Went to fit the spider box and the fuel rail sensor is different to the one in the car.

Might be worth speaking to there support, if it's the wrong cable they have been quick with someone else to replace the cable, I believe he got it within 24 hours so it's worth speaking to them.

Hi.

Update

EGR blank fitted, took ages had to remove battery and all sorts to get to it.

Air cone filter fitted.

Ill get some pics up first.

The spider box,

the fuel rail sensor took agesssss to find finally a red clipped sensor under the EGR and between lots of pipes. 3 pin connection. That fitted fine.

The map sensor is a 4 pin design but the connection for the box is a different shape. Ill upload some photos when i get chance.

Ill contact them tomorrow. Im hoping they have a lead for my car now after all this

Phoned up diesel tuning. They have a 3 pin map and a 3 pin fuel sensor. So are sending me out the correct wiring harness.

Whats the best way to upload photos to the forum?

You can click the image button which lets you link to an external source such as uploading too and getting one from: http://postimage.org/

or click the 'more reply options' button and use the attach files section.

After contacting spider the day after the last post. They had made the mistake of sending a 4 pin fuel sensor.

They sent the new one out the next day which was very helpful of them.

Finally got around to attempt number 2, which started well.

Box all installed, connectors fitted.

Car turned on - for one minute, then cut out.

All it would do then, is turn over and wouldn't start, the EML was on and with the car fault reader plugged in it didn't recognise any codes until the box was unplugged which it then had fuel and map sensor faults.

Took out the box and then spent a good hour trying to unclip the fuel sensor which was the most difficult thing in the world. Anyway all back to normal and the car started...
