My detailing thread...

Frosty's looking amazing, Dan!! That is some serious car care you've got going on there. Where did you learn how to do all of this?

Flic - if you're good with the conserver then it may still be there - but I'm not holding my breath

Take it off and wax it...

p.s. - why are you on Chatzy but silent?

aph - thanks. Greeny got my interest sparked when he posted some of his techniques - he suggested I join Detailing World, which is a forum like this but devoted to clean cars.

WARNING: joining detailing world caused me to lay out £300+ on products, so prepare yourself if you do it.

Cheers Rocky - I can't match you on the photographic front I'm afraid. Well, nor the detailing front because I dare not machine polish yet.

I can admit it now, because it's gone, I had your car as my desktop the whole time I was waiting for my car to arrive. Hope you don't mind.

Dan, I was always wary of machine polishing but luckily the detailing gods, Polished Bliss are not too far away from me and their advice and knowledge made me convert to try using a DA polisher. Not as difficult as I thought.

No probs with anyone using my pics at all. ;)

Ok Dan another stupid question... did you use a pressure washer for the snow foam part? I don't have a power washer but I noticed that you can get a snow foam attachment for a normal hose - don't know if that would be any good though.

i have both and honestly it is worth spending £100 on a pressure washer and foam attachment.

the ones for normal hose pipes just dnt foam up enough and stick to the car for long enough to clean anything off

I thought that might be the answer... better save some pennies then! Will it not cost a lot more than that for the pressure washer AND the foam attachment?

the foam attachment is £50 and about 2 weeks ago we bought a new karcher pressure washer for £50 which does the job perfectly.

get the foam attachment from ebay as the company do there deals on ebay.

i bought 1 foam attachment and 5 litres of snow foam for £50, i did get a better deal tho because the mistakenly sent out 2 attachments and 2 5 ltre bottles of foam :D

My presure washer was £34 from eBay - it's a K2.19. The foam attachment was £45ish.

It's a no frills Karcher - but you don't need the fancy stuff like detergent tanks because you're using the foam lance...

Haha, that's ace. I could do with some orders like that.

That's not too bad then.

Another question from the dumb blonde..... do you snow foam it every time you wash it in between the detailing? Don't want to wash the wax off!

linky to a good pressure washer, reconditioned but still very good

Thanks Greeny

Snow foam is wax friendly - the citrus stuff I use is supposed to be as well but I find it rather potent, so don't use it on the whole car.

Yes, I foam each time -

Wheels, foam, wash, (clay), (foam), (wash), prime, wax

(optional)

like dan, i snow foam at the start and after clay barring on a full detail.

in between i just do it at the start before a normal sponge/mitt wash and dry and QD

You don't do that EVERY time you wash it though?

So what's the best was friendly snow foam then?

Sorry about all these questions but I'm new to this!!!!

Karen if I hadn't asked all this I wouldn't have know where to start!

Sorry, my 'top up detail' is -

Wheels - foam - wash - dry - wax or QD

Same as Greeny's.

Re snowfoam, I can't fault this I4D stuff, I think it's Autobrite just rebranded, or Autobrite is this stuff rebranded - I'm not sure.

£13 for 5 litres, goes for ages. Put an inch in the bottle of the lance, fill with warm water, attach and go.

Snow Foam on I4D

i have 2 different snow foam

autobrite or bilt hammer

both wax friendly and can be used on the whole car. If you have chromes bits then stick the the measuring guide carefully as u can leave white marks on the chrome.

personally instead of using citrus foam i use orange pre wash through a pressure container sprayer

Last night I managed to get the car primed with Dodo Lime Prime and got the first coat of Autoglym High Definition wax on. Nice stuff, it's really durable, which is why I went with it over one of my other waxes. Had to work in the garage mind!

I let that cure fully overnight, then this morning came out to finish off.

Another coat of AG High Def, another coat of Poorboys wheelseal and another of Megs tyre dressing.

One shot to show how thin you want your wax (probably even thinner than this actually!) One sweep of the applicator pad across the wax tub should cover an area the size of your bonnet at least. Don't recharge the pad until you fee it dragging from lack of wax. I apply in circles, then go back over it in straight/curvy lines.

DSC00999.jpg

Any more than that and you'll get wax sheening off the top of the wax and creating white dust.

Last up - back outside (into some sun, hooray) for a good coat of Dodo Red Mist (the wax cured for a good three hours first)

All finished...

It should need that again until December time. Top up detail will be every 1-2 weeks.

Looks great Dan! Good work!

nice house!

car looks ok I suppose...

*turns green*

Oi Michael - make the most of the last few days of your holiday m8 and stop playing on here - you'll have plenty of time to do that when you get back to the UK!

mines getting a coat of normal lime prime this time to try and sort out a couple of small marks on the bonnet.

how many coats of wax did u stick on?

next meet is deffo a detailing meet
