The 110hp model...if so I'll leave it

it's a Citröen/Peugeot engine and most likely has the eloys fluid type dpf.

other common problem is leaking fuel injectors and text book turbo failure at around 120k if dpf isn't gutted and egr blanked to prevent oil from being contaminated with carbon deposits and dpf clogging causing cavitation in the turbo.

if buying your much better off purchasing a 1.8TDCi

no dpf and it's a Ford engine.

I have a 1.6TDCi bought unaware of the common problems,

Spent 1200 in preventative maintenance at 20,000 miles on clock and it's now got 180,000 on clock with no failures

still cheaper in the long run to purchase a 1.8TDCi

My advice would be to run away as fast as you can if it's the dreaded DV6 with all the issues :)

Thanks, I thought so....what's dv6

I still want an estate though as the hatch isn't enough in the back

Very tempted with an old 01 Octavia 1.9 estate, it's someone the mechanic I use knows

DV6 is the model of engine that is the 1.6 diesel

full name 1.6TDCi DV6 engine

it's emissions based has dpf and egr

see discussion regarding egr valve here:

http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/42915-guide-fitting-egr-blanking-plate-16tdci-engine/

Blank the egr valve,

Flush out carbon from engine oil

Have the dog internally removed

ECU remapped

oil breather catch tank

then only problem you have to watch out for is; leaking injectors

DV6 ( TED4 ) is the dodgy engine model

What's wrong with Ecuadors current maps?

Remapping Ecuador could be expensive :)

But much cheaper than rectifying a DV6 TED4 engine ! :)

Thanks for the link but it's for the egr, it's the dpf that's the problem or will be in future if I got it

It's a good car - crippled by a duff engine

Yes has both

Yes, just to complicate matters I believe it has a dpf too

Yep...bollox

Thanks for the link but it's for the egr, it's the dpf that's the problem or will be in future if I got it

both are equally a big problem mate,

Dpf collects it

and

the egr puts it back in to the engine induction

Egr is like the hand that scoops up the poo and puts it in the mouth of the individual whom discharged it just like Gorillas in winter eat there own poo to keep warm 😉

all modern diesels have egr valves

blanking it is very much advised stops exhaust gas recirculation

I know, I've blanked mine, it's the first thing I did, I can live with that but the dpf is different and a right pita

!Removed! shame as I really like the car and a lot of history ect with it......still needs a few wear/tear things done but a dpf is a no no

I've had my dpf cut open on factory weld,

Internal gutted and weld back up on factory joint

Refitted and remapped has no smoke and lower emissions than factory spec plus it appears to be completely factory as the dpf chamber is as it should be 👨

Ok...I'm tempted but it's more money, plus the mot place I use the guy's really on the ball, he's good but hard/fair....I'll think about it but I'd be a few hundred to get it all done as a map's 3-400 alone

I agree mate,

I say to people; if you find yourself stuck with a 1.6TDCi, it's worth spending up to 1500 on preventive maintenance

However

if buying a 1.6TDCi save an extra 1500 and get a 1.8TDCi if possible as it's a much better engine, still has egr but no dpf and no worry

It's a 1.8 I've got but want more space in the back hence an estate

My 1.6tdci doesn't have a dpf...
