Mk 6 02 Fiesta 1.4 Problems!

Featured Replies

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section!

Long story short - about a year ago, a garage forgot to tighten cam belt pulley and totalled the engine. they then rebuilt it, new head.. the lot.

Ever since its not run right, every now and then it doesn't want to start, and eventually does on the 3rd or 4th attempt, and will start if I have throttle flat to the floor.

Also it seems slightly lumpy on idle, and the engine note is different. When I open the bonnet and have a listen, there is a very distinct hissing sound coming from the fuel pressure control valve, so I suspect that could be part of the problem, but I'm not a mechanic so I don't know!

When driving the car seems very low on power, and feels like there is intermittent acceleration, and the car struggles a lot going up and sort of an incline.

Lastly, and recently the car has cut out completely a couple of times, with out any warning or notice, just silently stalls it seems - once going up hill, and the other down hill. Also it was both when I was changing down gears, with the clutch depressed. This was very dangerous as the steering lock came on, both times - and had limited braking. Then it took 3 attempts to get the car started again.

Any advise or knowledge would be extremely helpful!

Thanks, Michael.

Have you had the car connected to a code reader?

Also, are you sure the steering lock came on? As they're designed to come on mechanically when the key is removed..

You may have experienced the power steering disabling on you due to the engine dying

ah yeh maybe it was just the lack of power steering. yes I have before, a few times but every time a different fault code came up

What codes have you had?

sounds like valve timing issue when head redone

I'll leave you in ian's hands! He knows more about the inner workings of an engine than me :)

thanks!! ha ha , so the poor running/low power has been put up with for 12 months??

yeh - but ive only owned the car for 5 months as i bought it off brother, as he had a mobile mechanic look at it and said it was sorted..

the codes that appeared are:

u2510 can communication bug fault

p0460 fuel level sensor circuit

p1794 battery voltage circuit

p2107 throttle actuator control module processor

Valve timing sounds out, had the same sort of thing with a vauxhall after an engine rebuild had hometune out to it but he said I'm guessing it's one link out on the timing - and it was.

ah i see, but what about the hissing from fuel pressure reg? surely that's not normal

Do you have a video of the hissing?

Do the same codes keep coming up after deleting? Know fuel level sensor code will keep coming back, thats normal and can be ignored. I would still get someone to double check the valve timing again, wont take long to check only

  • Author

ill try posting a video later of the hissing, and im not sure i think most of them did come up more than once.

how comes the fuel level sensor can be ignored? the mobile mechanic who scanned it last said that code meant something in the fuel pump needed replacing..?

Hi Michael sorry for ancient bump.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Have the same issue you described with almost identical symptoms

Car will cold start and be lumpy, stall when dropping the throttle for first 5 10min till its warm unless I catch it with revs

Old Bump over here.

I have a Duratec 1.6 2005 Fiesta, I've always had the hissing sound, I think it is a vacuum leak, anyhow, its been atleast 6 years.

But recently I started experiencing the same issue

I'm getting codes P0500 (Vehicle speed sensor) which I think might be linked to a different issue, because I can my speedometer works fine, however, the car randomly loses power, especially at 3rd or 4th gear.

It sometimes turns off when going uphill. I replaced, fuel, oil, air filters and did an oil change 2 days ago.

I can also hear relays clicking near the footwell while im driving and the lights on my instrument dashboard flicker during the click, interior light flickers aswe( when I parked an the car is on) just clicks away.
