Tuning Box Vs Remap - Help

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I pick a new car up on Monday and due to what they had i took the 100ps model and looking to have it remapped / tuned. As this is new and may be an issue im looking to see the options of reverting back if this has to be given back etc.

Now you can get box's which will revert back to factory, What are these like? Any recommended names? Is this worth it against remapping?

Remapping - How can you revert back to factory, is it possible to save the ECU config and then have that added back via a tuning garage?

All help on this is appreciated and woohooo now a ford owner :P

As TXS has stated, superchips. Map can be removed if needed and a good return in BHP. ( Don't forget to tell your insurance company).

Thanks, Problem being its brand new and under the manufactures warrenty, I dont want to remap this and something to happen and then be screwed from Ford if you get me. The whole chip idea is if anything was to happen then it can be removed and the systems intact

:)

Just know that all remaps leave a trace in the ecu. With a remap a charge will apply to revert back to 'standard '. Tuning boxes tho slated by the ones who've never used them are untraceable and in my experience excellent. I ran one for over 7 years with no problems.

Bluefin by Superchips can be removed & re - added to the same vehicle at anytime at no further charge

Bluefin on my Mondeo TXS since it was 6 months old - no issues

I'm wondering about Bluefin if, as with my car and others too, because the ecu has to be removed and fettled so the bluefin works I'm supposing that a trace is left. That's why I don't like Bluefin. £80 there abouts and that's before bluefin is installed. Rip off in my book.

An hours labour at between £60 - £80 I guess for enabling your ECU for Bluefin

I ran a box on my friends' identical TXS for around 2 weeks a few months ago, to try & compare to Bluefin & although the box performed well, I was not keen on the fact that the box simply piggybacked on the car's ecu, leaving most settings unaltered & only altered a couple of parameters which are normally air & fuel supply, whereas a proper remap takes a lot more vital settings into account.

So there is more work than the guide posted here that needs to be done?

From my view i thought the bluefin was a chip not a map or was i wrong?

Never had anything mapped or tuned tbh, I have seen the gains on another car we have and its insane amount of torque produced.

Just stuck on deciding what to do, have it mapped and chance voiding the warranty (its 3 years on this brand new), Ford will be doing servicing etc on this is there a chance that they could pick up on this?

I want more out of this than the 100 BHP but wasnt prepared to pay 7 grand of a difference for the 140 BHP, the 180/220 remapped ST's, I would end up killing myself if i drove that lol...

Not in all cases - some cars including Tazzman's need the ECU to be fettled -as far as i'm aware yours doesn't & is simple plug n play

Bluefin is a hand held device supplied by Superchips

Insane increases are just that & will probably cause gearbox issues etc, it's generally accepted that an increase in the region of up to + 25% in bhp & nm terms is safe for the existing powertrain & needs no additional hardware.

My Mondeo TXS gets serviced by a Fraud dealer & I simply remove the remap to the Bluefin device prior to servicing & re-install after & I've had zero issues with either the Bluefin or Fraud or the car

Awesome, Should have been a salesman :P

Fraud dealer, ahha!

So simple as plug and hit uninstall?

According to Superchips' website the increase for the 98bhp / 100ps ecoboost are up to + 41bhp max & up to + 75nm max & simple plug n play @ £399 for Bluefin & £365 for dealer installation

I saw that, gains actually impressive for that 1L engine.

Curious to see how you reverse remap it back to stock.

Bluefin is hand held device with which you can download the remap to the car's ECU via the OBD port & upload it back to the device literally at will

Your like a modern day Jesus, Thanks :D

That's a great thing about Bluefin. I'd have it but the extra to have the ecu fettled puts me off. I wonder why I don't have permission to view cablelads link he/she posted !!!!!!

If your ecu doesn't need fettling Steven then go for bluefin and enjoy your new car.

I'm just happy to help my disciples . . . :)

I really want to get bluefin too it was one of the reasons I got a ecoboost and was going to order 1 strait after I bought my car and then I started reading posts about gearbox syncros failing and hve been in 2 minds since, very appealing tho 40hp for 399.

Is there any hard evidence that the synchro's failed as a direct result of the remap ?

Hi,

If you need any help with insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.
