What Am I Getting Myself Into

Without diesel the World would stop - overnight

Without petrol that would not be the case.

Low annual mileage does not detrimentally affect the operation of a DPF - it's multiple short journeys at low engine rpm that is not good for a DPF

Diesel Particulate Filter - Basically an overrated exhaust filter. The problem is the short frequent hops can cause issues as Mark said. The DPF gets clogged more easily as the exhaust fumes condense around cold components, and the carbon builds up. Giving it frequent runs on the motorway, high revs, high heat, helps to burn the carbon off the exhaust filters (DPF). Short runs doesnt allow it to clean off.

Driven correctly a DPF equipped vehicle should be good for at least 100,000 miles before the DPF needs cleaning or replacement & then at least another 100,000 if the engine is maintained correctly

Many petrol cars are razor blades at that mileage . . . . especially Poxhalls :)

Annual mileage really low at the moment at 6k and under

It's funny, a few years ago that would have been our annual mileage (with the old MK4 Fiesta in my avatar and signature).

Now 6,000 miles is covered in less then 6 months. Mind you, with a 1.8 petrol engine that gets 40MPG is isn't too expensive.

I have never seen the point of diesel engines. Our 1997 Fiesta 1.25 (aforementioned) got up to 50MPG and that was at over 10 years of age and 80,000 miles on the engine. If I needed really good fuel mileage, I'd sell the Primera and get a Fiesta with the 1.25 Zetec-SE for high MPG.

Very nice!

Ok it's a defo no on that one as despite its low mileage it felt like it'd been ramped in its history. Which made me reach a compromise, I'm going to keep my current car a few years then swap it for another brand new at the end :)

£205 for road tax wonder what new rs will be ????

Old rs is dead affordable, there's one on the bsm website to check against, it's a 2009 though...

Might hold out for an rs though 350bhp appeals to my inner boy racer lol
