Focus ST diesel, exhaust sound

Featured Replies

Hi

Is there a way to make this car louder like the petrol version

It is getting quieter as the miles add up (exhaust sooting up)

Are there any mods to make this sound a little louder ?

Jamie

Remove a silencer if you want exhaust note.

or look into getting a full stainless exhaust made up

It already has the middle resonator removed (factory mod)

Anyone >>?<<<

You need to be careful with a diesel.

It can end up sounding like a tractor if you are not careful.

You could always ask mountune if they are planning a cat back exhaust for it.

is the back box the same on the petrol version,

Thanks alex i wasnt getting anywhere

You'd need someone with parts access to see if the muffler is the same.

If mountune aren't doing one you could always look at having one custom made.

Just bear in mind the Focus is quite well insulated. I can't hear my exhaust unless backing in to my drive, otherwise it's just symposer on the road.

a point to note if an mot decides its louder than standard its an mot fail its really a sporty family car so isn't loud as stated mountine are well respected and they know there stuff ide speak to them first there may be a reason why you shouldn't do it etc if there is they'll know add to that their mods are ford approved and don't invalidate the warranty

I had a completely straight through twin exit exhaust on my diesel.

it passed mot fine as it wasnt as loud as you'd have thought it would be.

Although it got annoying & I put a box back in. , the rumble just gets on your wick after a while.

I would seriously think about going to a custom stainless exhaust place & getting a full kit made up , they will find the right noise your after without going over the top with a selection of back boxes.

Ive had this on one of my previous cars. Although it was a good afternoons waiting around at the place I got exactly what I wanted & done right.

Was about £300 £350 ish I think

I must admit when I did all that custom exhaust caper on short runs it was never an issue but on long runs it did my head in like you I had to have it changed ....i meant if you wanted a loud exhaust like some cars that shake the foundation of the house when they go past lol

Hi guys long shot, very old post... long time since a last post.

I too have a focus ST2 diesel...

Sometimes it sounds great,  sometimes asif the exhaust is blowing, and soon as you turn it off the nice sound disappears! I must be activating the nice sound somehow but I'm clueless, researched it alot... not much about diesel versions around. I'm thinking of a resonater delete, but, will it harm the car? The fuel economy?

I have read that something could happen resulting in engine light coming on, then may even have to do a remap too?!

How much would a remap be?

Tuning companies look great, mountune, pumaspeed etc etc, but they talk the talk, like salesmen... want your money so they go for the expensive way of doing things!

This is not an st just the basic 2.0 tdci and MK2 but shows you can get a nice sound with just a custom exhaust 😂

That sounds lush! Expensive things exhausts though, mine is a mk3 too. Will get some pics up when get a chance 👍

Thanks for the reply

The times when it sometimes sounds like it's blowing or burbling will almost certainly be a DPF regen.

Hi guys, same issue as @B4r10w.

Driving home from work in my diesel focus ST 2017  the other day and the exhaust sounded louder than usual. When I got out and listened around the back of the car it sounded nice (for a diesel) and kind of growly. It was mainly low revs that sounded loudest.

Wondering what might have made it sound like this and if there's a way I can trigger it again!

Cheers!!

As Alex said, this will be DPF regeneration. The car will only do it when it needs to

mine used to do it, loved how it sounded when regenerating!

Oh yea, I missed that reply! That's disappointing! It sounded half decent for a good 10 minutes. 😅 Thanks for the reply though.
