51 plate endura 1.3 clutch

Featured Replies

Hi any help is appreciated :)

My neice has just passed her test and got a 51 plate fiesta. The clutch is biting really high up and I'm thinking it may need a new one. Is it a straightforward job? Also what type of oil does the gearbox in one of these take?

Thanks

hi and welcome to the forum,

first of all what sort of mileage does the car have? the high biting point may well indicate that the clutch is failing.

the box holds 2.8litres of 75w/90 semi synthetic.

im not sure on how difficult a job this is on your car but are you likely to be undertaking this task yourself?

The gearbox oil got upgraded to fully synthetic Castrol SMX-S, multigrade, a special version for "difficult" gearboxes, and is used in IB/IB5 'boxes, also Ford Transit 'box and diff', as well as other companies' vehicles.

My IB5 'box has no drain plug, so draining the oil is a messy job via removing drive-shafts.

It's an easy enough job to do as far as gearboxes go. Done many in my time in little over 2 hours ;)

If your doing the job yourself I wouldn't advise it unless you know what your doing with cars. When your changing the clutch make sure to change the CSC and renew the pinch bolts also.

If your thinking of doing the job yourself I'll be happy to write up a quick 'how to'
