Fiesta 1.25 Zetec gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi guys, i'm new to this so please be gentle with me.

Wife has a V reg Fiesta 1.25 Zetec, and some time ago we developed a gearbox problem. Normally the gear lever, when in neutral, would automatically sit between the 3rd or 4th gear, presumably held by a spring. However, it appears that the spring has either broken or come adrift. Does anyone know whether the spring is under the lever, under the car, or actually in the gearbox itself?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

John

I read, this year, that this problem is located under the gear-lever. (an old posting on this site).

Thanks for your reply mate. I had a quick look and couldn't see anything obvious, but i will have another look this weekend. Gonna have a look for the post you mentioned too.

Thanks mate, but i can't find it. I put in a search for "homeless" but the only thread was one about keyless entry on April 14 09.

SORRY, That was the wrong reference, and referred to weak gearbox mount, allowing torque reaction to be OTT, and that thread is on page 6, started by WILLY, and titled "gearbox backlash on 2007 Fiesta".

The reference to the gear-lever spring fix must be way back. I shall try to find it.

I seem to have found it!!

A search on the Fiesta site for "gear lever spring", came up with 10 pages of threads.

On page 9, look at "wobbly gearstick", and "help needed", threads (JAN 7th '09, and NOV 16 '08).

Look like cheap fixes.
