Engine Malfunction.......

Featured Replies

Long story short, I have a 60 plate Mondeo. Over the past 3 weeks it's been in and out of the garage with the engine malfunction light coming on. They seemed to isolate the problem to the DPF filter and the last time it was in they fully re-generated it. As i was driving it home the 'service oil' light came on, which i found out is common after a DPF re-generation, that was 4 days ago. Today the engine malfunction light came on again.......Could this be related to the service oil light? All the work has been done at a Ford garage and cost a small fortune so would like some help/advice. Thanks

What engine is it 1.6 or 2.0?

Have all the garage done is regen? Theres usually a reason why a static regen required

2 litre. they changed the oxygen sensors somewhere or other and the thing that pumps diesel into the dpf, i forget it's name, vaporizor?

that was going to be my next question, vaporisers have a tendancy to block up and stops the regen as the temps in dpf cant get high enough without squirting fuel in. next one is have they replaced the pressure sensor, thats another one that can play up.

unfortunatly its difficult to diagnose for you without knowing what dtc codes are being triggered every time, engine malfuntion wont come on just because the service oil light on.

when was last service done ?

unfortunatly if the vaporiser has been blocked up for some time then it can allow dpf to block up to such an extent that regens wont unblock it and new dpf may be required.

I went to look at a mk4 2.0 diesel for a friend, engine malfunction light was on but wouldn't come up on my diagnostic system. Another guy plugged his machine in and it come up with something to do with diesel in oil. We didn't have a service light though.

An oil and filter change and all was well.
