Engine idling erratically and cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi all . I've got a Gal 98 2 litre petrol which ticks over erratic and cuts out sometimes . The battery light flicks on just before cut out and steering will lock etc . Any ideas guys ? Thanks for looking

It could be the idle control valve. Unplug it unbolt it take it off and give the inside of it a good spray up with carb cleaner. Let it dry out and replace. Also might be worth giving the throttle body a clean out too with the carb cleaner as well. I had the same problem on a fiesta and that cured it. Hope this helps

Thanks mate . Will give it a go . Cheers

if the battery light is coming on and the steering locks up, sounds to me like an alternator / battery fault. As the power to the hydraulics pump is being cut mid flow.
