Hi Gy's, well as I was cleaning my UEE (That's it's name, no guessing as to why haha) I found a stone chip in the front bumper.

I thought it was a paint defect but I THINK a stone covered in tar or something hit it and has made a nice little hole!! Thanks!

The little dint is black and now I know it's there, well I can't avoid seeing it.

Now as going by past experience I am totally crap at touch up's, anyone have an idea how much it'll cost to have fixed? If it was just a dong it wouldn't be as bad but as it's black.....

I tried to get the black stuff out but it's like strands of plastic which I fear is the plastic bumper?

For less than a tenner you can get a touch up kit from ford and the best method for most is to use a pin to just drop the paint in, although i prefer a very fine paint brush when i do any stone chip repair's. The end result can vary depending on the size of the chip,location etc and last but not least the time and care in performing the repair. If you don't fancy giving it a go you could get a free quote from someone like chips away.

Hahaha, trust me mate, taking computers apart or other electrical things doesn't faze me at all. When it comes to touch ups, or filling walls come to think of it, my hands suddenly grow in size to 5 feet across or something!! So I'll look up a quote. I think I best get my cleaning products and get that polish or wax on the front.

I'll take a look at Chips Away, are they any good? I think may also ask the Ford Dealers own sister body shop.

I can't vouch from personal experience but my sister had them repair 2 stone chips on her silver astra and you really have to inspect the bonnet closely to see even the slightest hint of any repair. It's definately worthwhile getting a free quote if your not confident in doing a decent job ;)

It's wierd in 6months my previous mk7 had one small chip on the roof of all places but since i've had the 59 reg i've had 4 stone chips and the first one was literaly the same day i picked it up from the dealer

Can anyone offer advice? Basically me nearest chips away man can't do anything intil January and I want to wax my car plus he gave an estimate over the telephone of £95!!!!! I am taking ti back to my dealers on Friday to have my squeeky seats fixed and will ask for a quote from teh accident repair centre across from them but would I be able to use some tar remover and touch up paint myself?

I'm not very good with paint haha, but £95 is a bit much IMO, I don't need to whole thing sanded down and repainted! :o

I had a fairly large scuff on the bumper on my last car and it was fixed by a body shop specialist for £45. To be fair though they were re-spraying the passenger side after it had been keyed and I didn't have to pay for the paint. My friend used Chips Away to repair a large scrape on her Civic and I am sure they only charged around £150 so £95 for that little chip seems excessive.

What about filling in the hole with a touch up pen so that its not so noticable?

Right, I got my dealers to fix my squeaks I was getting, it's no as silent as a Rolls Royce lol.

Anyway, they will touch up my chip as well but they didn't have a pen in stick so have ordered one in and I shall take it to them next week so someone who knows what he's doing can fill it in for me.
