Hi, i have a Ford Focus Zetec, 1.8 tdci 2008. My issue is : the reversing light doesn't work.

What we've tried :

bulb replacement - still doesnt light
switched the holder from foglight which works but didnt when connected to the reverse cable
gear stick in reverse position - GIVES THE CORRECT VOLTAGE which should light the bulb but nothing

Any suggetions? M.O.T is on monday so would like this sorted if possible, or know what the garage will charge.

Thanks
Matt

Most likely the reverse light switch on the gearbox broken, common fault.

try cleaning the metal contacts in the bulb holder that's what stop mine from working

put the windscreen wipers on , and put car in reverse , rear windscreen wiper should make a sweep over window . if it doesnt its narrowed it down to the reverse light switch on gearbox as Tom said .

Try putting a link wire on both terminals in the connector of the switch, if the light works the switch is knackered. If you need to order a new one make sure you get the right one. There are 2 different ones, one square and short and one triangle long one.

Good luck Mike.

The gearbox...  Exact location depends on the engine you have.
