Re-mapping Red edition?

Hi guys. I was hoping someone had asked this question. I collect my black/red Zetec on Monday and have been trawling sites to work out whether it can be remapped/tuned to squeeze abit more power out of that mighty 1.0 engine.

My dealership (TC Harrison's) offer a mountune upgrade for that car that does not impact my Ford warranty. Best part of £1800 boosting the bhp to 165 from 140. This is alot of hardware modifications as well as a remap.

Has anyone gone down this routeor or driven a mountune 140 black at all? Would be interested on your thoughts. I know the cost is high and were into ST money but insurers want £5000 off my for an ST even if I fitted this kit I'm at £1000 all in.

if you only have an intake or something along those lines in generally doesn't effect warrenty. If youre looking for more speed, pumaspeed have got 205 out of the engine lol

  • Nothing you can do to the 140 will be warranty friendly so it's all at your own risk.

  • The mountune MR165 WILL VOID THE WARRANTY. Hence the R for racing. I think your dealer needs to re-check their facts. Only the MP135 is warranty friendly and that does not apply to the 140.

  • Dealer can fit anything you ask them to, doesn't mean it will not void warranty. I have had my dealer fit aftermarket stuff, they don't care. I'd want a letter from your dealer to say they w

I saw that the other day pretty impressive. My aiming was to basically up everything without causing any strain or issues. I'm going to look into the bluefin chip as I had one on a mini cooper and it was the business. My only concern in the warranty being affected which is why I'm leaning toward the mountune option done by the dealer... https://www.mountunestore.com/products/fiesta-b299fox-mr165-power-upgrade-kit

as we just said , tc harrision are not telling the truth if there offering the mr165 as warranty friendly.

Just make sure your dealer is correct and if so get it in writing so they can't go back on their word. I would do that straight away if so my dealer had that deal.

Doesn't matter what the dealer says, the warranty is with Ford and they won't pay out.

Surely if there is an issue on a dealer fitted and approve modification they will cover the cost of repairs? They given me paperwork to confirm my warranty isn't affected :S I guess as long as they confirm they pay and I don't it doesn't matter whether it's Ford or the dealer.

I have had my dealer fit aftermarket stuff, they don't care.

I'd want a letter from your dealer to say they will cover the cost of any failures as a result of the upgrade.

They do not have the authority to speak on behalf of Ford's warranty, only to act on their behalf.

id be surprised it tc harrision would  give warranty on a 3rd party aftermarket upgrade that even mountune wont.

this is from tc Harrison,

As with any Mountune MR upgrade, the MR165 does not benefit from the same warranty provision that the MP135 upgrades provide and can only be installed by a Mountune PRO Dealer such as TC Harrison Ford in Burton for £1,799.00 fully fitted, including VAT. For customers who are currently running an MP135 upgrade, the MR165 is available at a reduced cost of £1,759.00.

Has anyone seen or heard of anyone actually having this done. As I know the 1.0 litre is already tuned and being mapped may put too much pressure on the engine? Would like to see your opinions.

I think most info/opinion re warranty issues, 'for & against' etc have now just about been covered? Purely personal opinion after reading all posts so far? I would not go for it (165PS or whatever) for simple peace of mind, this additional to my reasons/comments mentioned in my previous post. In the end you will have a 'letter' BUT the big boys Ford and Mountune have laid out their terms/facts. Its they who made the train sets you are playing with and personally my nerves would be constantly jittering even with a 'letter'! The only thing to add is that I fully appreciate that in in your instance additional insurance considerations do enter into it.

Yeah I've decided not too go ahead with it. It's a new car so I would just exploring what I could add

If you are that worried about things effecting the warranty, then modding isn't for you until after 3yrs when it runs out

Hi guys, new here and enjoyed this thread so far.

I'm also considering the Super chips remap for my Red Edition. Do you think the performance gains are worth the voided warranty? If you did have something go catastrophically wrong could you just not plug in the Bluefin and remove the remap before a warranty claim anyway?

I'm pretty sure you can't undo the map. Some other companies let you reverse the tune. Not sure on ehich ones but I'm sure bluefin dont

I thought Bluefin/Superchips were the ones which you could undo if you simply plugged the device back in? I maybe wrong though..

With Bluefin you can remove the remap and replace with the oem map. If you have the map done on a rolling road then its fixed and you cannot remove it yourself.

All this is expalained on their website and people should refer to the manufactors write ups and not post iffy comments of which they have no knowledge or facts.

It may throw someone down the wrong path. If someone has personal knowledge then they have a valid opinion.

I think the flashing is logged on the ECU though, so they can tell if the map has been tampered with...

So I was pretty much right with the bluefin then - the original map can be put back on when people use the bluefin devices at home on their own - so no issues there as the question stated blue fin.

A forum would be pretty much useless since people can most likely google answer/look straight on a manufacturers website - also if you scroll through most posts on this topic its mostly people giving opinions so no need to point one person out  The post above me said bluefin can't be removed! "Not sure which ones but I'm sure bluefin can't be removed"...but ok whatever

I spoke to superchips today who said for the most part the map should be undetectable at the dealership, can anyone who's has it done "chip in" on this?

Which means it won't popup and alert them. But if they look for ecu writes they will be able to tell.

If the engine goes pop and it needs replacing you can bet Ford will check in deep what's caused it before forking out.

It might not be a high probability you'll have an issue but there is a potential for you being up the Creek without a paddle should Ford find out about the map as they'll just refuse to pay out.

REVO Stage 2 Remap

In terms of reliability I'm aware of how long pumaspeed have ran their 205bhp, and also how long REVO have been developing this remap without issues. Stoneacre have agreed not to terminate the warranty but they've said any parts that aren't original won't be covered which is both obvious & fair to me

Nope, its available for all of the variants as I wasn't 100% sure so spoke to pumaspeed

I don't fancy playing with hybrid turbos yet/on this car so I'm sticking with 180.

The revo map also has different modes. the modes I'll be going for are

"Regular" (as close to stock power as is possible without running bad)

95 Oct regular boost

97 Oct regular boost

Antitheft (engine will start then die)

Valet mode - low low boost & limited revs, all though this won't be used as I obviously care for the car myself.. and it won't be used for services as it'll be set to "regular"
