Engine Bay Wash

Featured Replies

What is the best way to wash an engine bay? I want to clean it up as it's got all crap and been bugging me. Read online but they seem to be a little too risky for my liking and was wondering if anyone on here has cleaned their engine bays?

Thanks

i would jack the car up put it on stands and get underneath and get dirty the only thing to look out for is the electrical connectors.

i plan to do my car once i get the air leak in the fuel lines sorted so i can put it thru it's mot

i am from a motorbike background and done loads of work on bikes replaceing rocker gaskets and cleaning balancing carbs.

one thing about motorbikes is there is great stuff called sdoc100 just spray it all over bike and engine wait 10 mins then pressure wash it off

bike would be sparkling i have some left so i will use it on the engine.

but like yourself i wont be going near the car engine with a pressure washer some people do but they cling film the electrical connectors.

but most of the time it is impossible to get all them.

i would just spend a spare afternoon getting dirty and cleaning everthing.

it's good to do because you will find any leaks if they ever happen.

so you'd suggest maybe taking certain areas off and cleaning by hand? I think my pressure washer would be too powerful and would rip bags apart if I did that haha, so think it would be a hose pipe job. But was wondering the best way, I was thinking about maybe going to someone but I'd rather do it myself.

yeah do it yourself then you know whats been done i would not take anything apart just take care around the air box things that can get wet

like the air filter.

just use a good de greaser and let it sit most of the time i would just sponge the areas they dont need to be soaked just damp wiped.

the degreaser/engine cleaner will do all the work just have plenty old rags or halfords do blue roll that is for the purpose.

i would not rush it but there is only really the top of the engine and the engine gaskets at the front you can get at.
