Tdci-Peter
I once went a mile too far in my old Sierra, coasted down a hill, opened up the throttle at the bottom, Nothing. Came to a halt in a dodgy parking place at the side of the busy A35 trunk road. Just the other side of the road was a big lay-by with an emergency phone: Out of Order! (No mobile phone on me back then). It was a jolly long walk into town to get some petrol, & I had to buy a can. I did find an AA man lurking in town, persuaded him to give me a lift back. I said it was dangerous to stand at the edge of the main road (in the dark), filling the car, he rather reluctantly agreed. I then had to resort to the old trick of blowing into the petrol tank to pressurise it a bit, to push some fuel through (Car pointing uphill a bit). This takes multiple breaths, the trick is NOT to breathe in from the tank, that is not nice. But it worked, got the thing started. I have carefully avoided repeating this experience ever since.
