Smart watches

Featured Replies

Up until I bought one I wasn't convinced tbh. And mine is only a fitbit blaze rather than an apple as I don't buy into apple products anymore - too samey imo having owned a air2 iPhone 4s and 5s. I'm a android convertee lol

However, it's fab, it buzzes/ vibrates with each new notification, keeping me on top of my text messages and gives a steady read out of health stats - having had 2 heart scares this is extremely beneficial

For instance doing the garden today - we've lopped down 1 of our 4 massive conifers and are in the process of chopping them up into smaller pieces to take to the recycling centre. Anyway, I've burned 1881calories , am over halfway to my 10000th step today and have completed 7 of 9 workout challenges already fabidoozey!

Anyway you got one? Which one? Won't get one? Why?

I don't have a smart watch, but my colleague convinced about the fitness trackers, so I do have a fitbit charge HR.

Has already helped me to loose 6 lb, so well worth it.

Definitely a good incentive to do more.

The main thing that puts me off about proper smart watches is how often you need to charge them, I can go about 5 days with my fitbit, and I have an eco-drive watch on the other wrist to tell the time :)

I had a pedometer for a couple of weeks after joining a step challenge through work and have just upgraded to a Fitbit charge. If I monitor what I'm doing I'm more likely to do more. My job is shift work and desk based, neither of which are particularly good for remaining active and healthy and when working nights or 12 hour shifts at the weekend I often feel like I've spent my entire period of waking just sitting in front of my computer. Since I've started the challenge I've been taking the stairs at work up to the 6th floor, doing a lap of the office every now and then and am including a 30 minute walk as part of my commute at least once a day. I'm currently with my daughter at the library and instead of taking a seat I've been pacing around! There's lots more I can do with the Fitbit but at the moment I'm enjoying just monitoring my steps and it's motivating me to be more active - hopefully the effect will last!

I don't have one purely because I like a watch as a timepiece, Im all for technology etc but i much prefer a nice solid timepiece.

Thats why I only went for a fitness tracker. Have my fitbit on one wrist and my citizen eco-drive on the other :)

Yeah, agreed. If you want something for fitness tracking get a nike fuel band or whatever, can clip on and off whenever you want, and its not too expensive. Put all your cash towards your cars and watches

I had / have a gorgeous dkny watch (gold and ceramic) my husband bought me for my birthday/ anniversary (got married on my birthday) the other year. And near ruined it at work, so these days it goes pretty much unworn

I work in a chiller and standard watches suffer in this 1°c environment so I need a watch able to withstand it. Water resistant or waterproof is the need be. I called fitbit UK after purchase and they advised the watch WOULD be able to cope in this environment so we'll wait and see.

I have a smart watch...  I wind it up every night, and it tells me the time.  That's "smart" enough for me!

don't have a watch but I'm never late anywhere, allways a good time keeper.

I don't see the point in them so don't have one.  I've got a Samsung s7 & that samsung health app on there is mint.  I think a smart watch is just an unnecessary gadget, a bit like Crossover's & other vehicles.  Father in Law has a Iwatch or whatever it's called, don't have a clue what it does either, but he's one of these techno geezers that has to have the latest tech.  But yea my phone could probably tell me I  haven't wiped my backside properly, it's only for Steam and this Forum + detailing world that I use my laptop for now.  Oh & Itunes/dvd's through the Tv & stereo system.

My wife and i both have very smart watches, Tag Heuer. :)

Someone is doing well in life lol.  I like Tag Heuer

got a tag aswell, never buy 1 again unless its an automatic.

75 quid for a sodding replacement battery.

got a pepsi seiko auto i bought at a boot fair wear that most of the time.

My day-to-day watch is a G-SHOCK. Radio controlled and has a solar panel built in. For slightly dressier occasions I have a nice Ediface watch - stainless steel with a black face. Also radio controlled lol

I like Casio watches...don't like smart watches. Other peoples annoy me, so won't be bothering with one for me!!

Yer the battery change is a little expensive, £60 to send back to Tag in Manchester for pressure sealing and testing, guaranteed to 200m again but you can get a battery change for £30 but only pressure tested to 50m, battery's usually last 6 years though.

I have a thing for watches and have bought and sold a few, the market for good quality Swiss watches does rather well and if you look hard enough you can find a bargain to either keep or sell on and make a little.

I have a 20 year old blue faced series 2000 from new that's still valued around £450 as its a proven movement, that's my day to day watch and would never be without it now, i also have a newer Senna which is amazing but like my old one better, go figure.
I love the older watches as there a proven moment and have a little history, i once got hold of a 70's Rolex in a swap deal then sold it private to a dealer for his collection, pointless me holding on to it as i don't collect and would never have worn it but its was a lovely watch.

You want a Tag, check out ebay for what's there, look for older as in 5 years old and backwards as age is nothing to these things, look for private sellers with history, ie, box and register number, google the number for a full history of the watch and look for no reserve.

If you need a price comparison check the dealers on ebay for similar makes and age watches and see what price they have them up for, this will give you an idea of how much your going to commit to,,,, Also look for misspelling of Tag Heuer by non dealers as it happens a lot, you can find bargains as no one bids on them as it will not show on a correctly spelled search and if there's no reserve your in. If you get one for less the £300 to £500 depending on type and age then you will have a watch for life for a great price.

good luck.

im must admit i do really like Citizen Eco-Drives as well, been looking at a few new ones lately and will probably get one sooner or later, they are a very nice watch indeed.
I just need to justify another watch to the good lady, im considering boxing my 20 year old day to day Tag now as its promised to my grandson and an Eco-Drive would be a great replacement i think, i wonder if she'll fall for that one lol.

my boy has set his heart on a citizen red arrows watch for his 18,they do look nice but maybe for his 21st.

ive got an old omega seamaster watch whitout a strap and in poor condition, took it to a jewelers i use and he tried to take the back off but almost broke his watch wrench, said it was a genuine watch and advised me to send it to omega themselves to investigate and maybe bring it back to life.i will do when i have some spare cash as i think it looks the biz.

Think they're referring to smart technology as opposed to clean, tidy, presentable watches... I like your choices though!

I have a polar m400.

Its a GPS running watch come activity tracker- basically does everything I need it to.

Those of you with optical HR sensors... HR charge the heart rate indicator is not very accurate.

I read a lot about it before I bought one, I know it isn't that accurate, but it is good enough for my needs.

Fitbits are more casual use, not pro fitness bands.

It shows me if I have been lazy or fat burning, so that's all I need :)

Couple of my mates have ones linked to their iphones.

Look daft talking to their wrists though.

Too expensive and easily broken imho.

It is just one step away from having a computer implanted into your brain, in my opinion.  I left my mobile phone in the car one day, and only realised when I went to do to bed and couldn't find it.  Thinking back, I enjoyed my evening so much more not being "connected".

If somebody really needs to contact me, they can call my landline - if I'm out then GOOD LUCK.

One of my other colleagues couldn't find her phone at home but kept getting emails and texts on her watch.

Took her 2 days to realise her phone was still in her car on the drive outside.
