What is the grill for underneath the rear view mirror stanchion on my 2015 Fiesta, and would there be a problem if I mounted a dash cam bracket over it.  Also what are the black dots for on both my wing mirrors?

On my 16 plate titanium the "grill" underneath the rear view mirror house's cameras and rain sensor. I have my dash cam mounted directly below the stanchion and works great from there. Sucker fitment,

As for the black dots on door mirrors may be to do with blind spot. I know titanium X have  yellow  icon on mirror to warn of vehicles in that proximity.. My Titanium has dotted section down the mirrors which is for wide angled section.

I have had my Dash cam a couple of years now. After a lot of research I chose the DOD tech from these guys.  http://www.hdigital-eye.com/

The dash cam I chose was the 

DOD LS460W High Definition GPS car DVR with WDR Technology

Why I chose it was because it is one of the few dash cams out there that have an actual Sony exmore camera lens F1.6 Big Aperture - Super Low Light Performance lens at 140 degree viewing angle. 

To save me a lot of typing visit the link above and read up on it and watch the quality of the video capture, especially night time.

I used to remove it all the time, but it does have a function to auto record in car park mode. However I just leave it in the car all the time and recording all the time.

All in all It is a high end dash cam and the playback software is excellent.

So look at this one first and use it to base your search for a dash cam.
