Fiesta 1.6tdci mk6 zetec s EGR PROBLEM!

My car is a 04 plate fiesta zetec s 1.6tdci, I need to change my egr valve but apparently they need to be recoded when you unplug them to change the valve. Is this right or is it a DIY job?

Hi. Later models have an electrical EGR, and the book says it needs setting up. I suspect that Forscan (freely downloadable, see my other recent posts, or ask here if you want) can do this, otherwise it is probably an expensive garage job.

But, many earlier models (Euro 2 or 3 standard)  have a simpler, vacuum operated egr, & may not need setting up.

I think, try it, if it works, well & good. If lights come on, or other errors, try Forscan, if all else fails, then garage (always my last resort!)
