Mondeo 2003 TDCi Sticky Steering

Featured Replies

Purchased a used 2003 Mondeo TDCi last week.  Previous owner did inform me of the steering being a bit sticky but this does disappear after a couple of miles of driving.

Basically upon starting from cold and pulling away I feel a stickiness/stiffness in the steering wheel, but only when turning right. After about 5 minutes this disappears and everything feels fine, but would like to get it sorted.

Various Google searches have ranged from Power Steering fluid needs changing to steering rack problems.

Just wondering if anyone here has had similar issues.

Seizing ball joint?

There's three steps. 1. Remove the cover above the pedals and re-grease the steering linkage. (There are posts in this forum about this.) 2. If that doesn't work, then.... Change the steering fluid. 3. If that doesn't work, replace the steering rack.

also check the power steering belt and tensioner, but sounds like steering rack as its only when turning in one direction.
