Hi all,

 

Bought a 16 plate Fiesta back in April, only had the car a month when someone pulled out into me on a roundabout, the damage was very very minor (luckily!)  with the rear wheel taking the brunt of the hit, all been sorted through their insurance.

 

However, it's now got me thinking of purchasing a dashcam, especially ones with parking modes, incase anyone hits my car and drives off!

Halfords would hardwire one for £30 professionally, however would this affect my warranty? I'd need it hardwired to be able to use the parking mode, and it would also avoid cables etc.

Any advice on this would be appreciated, also are Halfords recommended?

No it won't void the entire warranty if done properly. If not done properly then any damage caused by the fitting will not be covered by the warranty.

I personally wouldn't recommend Halfords to do anything, I wouldn't let them near any of my cars.

It is not that difficult to do yourself tbh.

plenty of guides on youtube. Took me about 15 minutes to install mine.

I wouldn't trust Halford or kwikfit to touch anything. But I WOULD get it professionally hardwired in for two reasons: your sanity and safety if you've never done that type of thing before and your warranty, as then if it does balls up you've got someone else to blame.

 

I had mine professionally fitted by a car hifi specialist, cost me about 30 so cost was the same

Hi,, i had mine hard-wired by the garage i use, only because it was February and freezing otherwise id have done it myself being an ex Mantec.
I rang my insurance to tell them about it and asked if it was considered a modification, they said yes and asked a few questions, the model and make how much it cost and who fitted it and did it have anti surge protection etc, no extra charge on my insurance but the cost of the kit and the hard-wire job would be added to any write off damage or theft etc.

Most (if not all) insurance companies will give you a discount for fitting a dash cam. Axa gave me 10%

I've just spotted this and phoned my insurer to report mine as a mod. They don't have it on their systems yet as a modification so therefore (they told me) didn't need to know.

I'm not with a small group insurance companies either, it's one of the huge companies out there.

Again I called my insurers as above and no discount is given, so not all companies, even the big ones offer this

Just a thought but,, if they don't class it as a mod then they don't have to give you a discount, but i bet they would be quite happy to prove a third party was at fault in an accident.

And if that happened it would benefit you as you wouldn't have an at fault claim against you.
