2002 Mondeo Caliper Removal issues! RUSTY Rounded bolts!

Featured Replies

Hello all! First post and im on the beg already!

Can anyone advise me please?

I am trying to change the pads and discs on my mondy 2002.

Some chump before has rounded the bolt heads on the caliper, so its being a bit of a mare. I've just got hold of some rounded head removers, but if this doesn't work, can I cut the bolt behind the head and slide off the caliper. Then potentially wrestle the slide pin out, or will it just pull out> I've got new bolts and slide pins etc.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

John

Is it a set of spiral type bolt removers you've bought? they will remove the bolts no problem. Also are you using 6 or 12 point sockets?

Got these (see attached)

and I was using a 12 point. but it was already chewed by a previous owner.

the flutes on those look parallel, if they were spiral the more force you apply the tighter they bite in to the bolt head.

its surprising how much you can get away with using a 6 point hex socket,
