Hello

The dpf ordered is slightly different rather than 2 pipes on the dpf for the pressure pipes it has one sticking out pipe and a hole with a thread for the other.

I have been to the hydraulics place I use for the machinery at work and they have gave me a thread to fit it with a tint seal so all I need to do is weld a pipe on the end so the pressure pipe will fit on.

I will try and get some picsbof the dpf so its easier to see.

  • It has done 150k and yeah a DPF was regen less than 50k ago. I will check the hoses in the morning.  I don't get it all this just from a flaming fuel filter 😠

  • I'm not sure I have some service history and in there is something about a DPF deep clean, will look at it tomorrow to be sure and will let you no.  Thanks TDCI PETER I will get one of them

  • Right I have ran a static regen. Reconnected everything. Drove around for 10 mins and so far not one error code 😂  Thanks for all your help guys couldn't if got this far without you all. Wil

Finally have the new dpf on.

Reset DPF value. Now I have a eolys error, do I have to reset or prime it?

On the upside the car has a ton more power more responsive it's made a great improvement.

It is putting up a fight, this car!

Is it P1922, or another FACM error?

As far as I know, the Eolys dosing and DPF systems are pretty much separate. The Eolys is in the fuel tank all the time, added after each fuel fill. The Cerium metal in it is supposed to combine with the soot particles as they form inside the engine, then when these modified particles stick in the DPF, they burn at a lower temperature due to the Cerium in them.

If it is P1922 or similar, you need to physically check the level of Eolys fluid. The tank is down near the fuel tank somewhere. If it is low, it will have to be topped up. Once full (or nearly full), then  the "Refill the Fuel Additive Tank" service function in Forscan can be used to initialise the system. Maybe it got upset for some reason during the DPF change & reset learned values procedure, though I don't think this should normally happen.

If you run the Refill... function with a low tank, there is a danger it will run out of Eolys without any warning, and then damage the new DPF! I think it is important that Eolys is always present. There seems to be no level sensor on this system (cheapskate Ford!), it all relies on measuring & counting doses.

The code is p2584.fuel additive control module mil request

Other codes

U0118.      U1900

I'm wondering if it's because it was jacked up on the front end for over 5 hours and it wasn't level.

Strange how changing a dpf (completely other end of the car) has affected the eolys. Is it easy to see a level.

Does it have to be eolys or could I use adblue ?

Adblue is a very different fluid, urea based, and it is to reduce NoX emissions in a catalytic process. It will not work in a dpf.

There are cheaper alternatives to Eolys, like JLM PAT fluid, & Wynns DPF cleaner. Though it is not clear whether they contain the vital Cerium Oxide, or can be mixed with Eolys in the additive tank. So I can not really recommend them, especially with a new DPF.

But I am more interested in the U0118, failure to communicate with the FACM error. I think this is the cause of the light, not the Eolys. Once again, it looks like an electrical fault.

I am guessing the P2584 DTC is in the PCM, and it is a general request from the FACM to signal an error:

P2584: Fuel Additive Control Module Requested MIL Illumination.

While often linked to Eolys level problems, this is only one cause for P2584.

I think I would put some Wynns DPF cleaner in the tank, just in case no Eolys is getting through (this does claim to be compatible with Eolys, though not as a Eolys replacement in the additive tank). And then monitor with Forscan to confirm whether it is electrical (Communications, possibly linked to the U0073 error), or a fault in the FACM related to Eolys level.

If it is electrical, it may be intermittent, and go away for a while if the DTCs are reset.

DTC was reset but u0118 keeps coming up.

I can not access the FACM module on forscan. Any ideas of possible causes.

All sensors and connectors were reconnected. Anything specific to check?

 And yeah p2584 is pcm

Just thought I should explain in full as my battery died yesterday.

When fitting the DPF I had to wait for it to cool down so while waiting I was sorting my boot light wiring as I have added a strip light as the standard light was rubbish. I shorted one of the wires which blew the fuse, however my manual shows a mk2.5 fuse box so I had to go through the lot one by one and must of place one in the wrong place.

Only fault code on forscan but no engine light is U1900 to do with instrument cluster but no physical problems on the dash, so as far as I'm concerned car is fixed 👌

Now do I get rid or keep it ?

Is that Haynes? My Haynes does not show the proper passenger fuse box. I am slowly compiling a cross reference list of fuses. The functions mostly seem the same, just re-numbered from 100 up.

I guess it was either F70 (aka F100) or F43 (aka F102)? Both of those power the FACM. I did not think of fuses, 'cos I did not see the connection, but now it is clear! These things are always clearer after the event.

On its own, U1900 does not mean much, note & ignore it.

Sell or Keep: Always a hard one. Would a replacement be more reliable, or less? Now, with a new DPF might be a good time to sell, but really it depends on finding a suitable replacement, in good condition and at a sensible price first. The choice is yours.

No the fuse diagram was in my owners manual.

Yeah 102 (43) but yeah I thought it was a bit strange that it would be there.

Would you recommend a petrol mk2 over the diesel mk2.

In a word, no, but I am a bit biased towards diesel!

For the 1.6 petrol, there are lots of complaints about its lack of power low down the range, and you have to make it squeal to get any real go out of it. Max Torque is at over 4000rpm (vs under 2000rpm for diesel), max power at 6000 rpm. If you like the 1.6TDCI pull from low revs, you might miss that on petrol.

The 2l petrol is getting expensive in fuel consumption & tax.  That could easily cancel the repair bills.

I like the 1.8TDCI, bit more basic (some would say crude!) than the 1.6TDCI, but Euro 4 with no DPF, and the EGR can be blanked if you wish without problems (as long as it works mechanically). Some claim it is noisy, I do not find that, probably depends on car (& driver!) But avoid 2008 (year) unless the injectors have been changed. Bad year for the 1.8TDCI

I don't hear so much about the 2L TDCI,  mainly because they are rarer, so can not say much about them.

Or stick with the devil you know.

The 1L Ecoboost sort of combines petrol & diesel features, and is very popular. But you would have to go up to Mk3 for that, I think. And as it ages, will it combine the best (low cost, high performance) of both, or the worst (big repair bills, unreliable). Time will tell there. It has a lot of interesting, new features like 250,000 rpm turbo, very high coolant temperature, direct (2000PSI) petrol injection.

I think after replacing the DPF, cam belt, radiator, glow plugs and also most of the turbo pipes I think it's best to keep it as the money spent on it I won't make back.

I am hoping that now the DPF has been changed I won't have many more problems. Also the EGR has been cleaned and is fully working. (Just can't blank it 😞)

Thought i would make an update.

Cars running great no DPF problems, EGR has been blanked and running fine.

Still getting turbo underboost on forscan but no EML so not a problem.

When does your turbo kick in just wandering as mine kicks in at 2500 RPM.

Thanks

  • 1 year later...

This thread has been very useful, so often they dont get finished and its like reading a book with the last few pages ripped out... Working on my Focus 1.6 TDCI110 I'm having problems myself with U0118 lost comms with the FACM, its not registering on Forscan also DTC P2584 FACM MIL request (Signal is above max threshold)..... Will check fuses F43 and F70.....  I'd be interested to know where the Grounds/Earths for the FACM would be located?

FACM Ground is to rear right wheelarch, according to the drawing.

Ah thanks, as it turned out I had blown F43, so no more codes and I feel like a champ thanks to all the useful info provided by you top chaps. This was only supposed to be a spares car but its looking quite good now I changed a couple of split pipes and degreased the sooty oily engine. Now for the timing belt on the other 1.6 TDCI we own
