MPG Not changing

Featured Replies

Hi all

Ive now owned my second mk3 mondeo for almost a year now and noticed that my mpg was dropping and it wasn't running smooth etc. Found out it was a dodgy injector so got that sorted the other week. Runs smoother now but I have noticed that my MPG readout isn't budging one bit, Im not expecting 60mpg or anything out of a 15 year old mondeo but before the injector started going a bit iffy it was doing an average of 50mpg but now it seems to be stuck at 43.6 and doesn't change no matter how i drive it.

Im thinking there could be an issue with the readout like it needs resetting or something. Any ideas? Thanks Ry.

Hi mate,

I had an E320 CDi Mercedes that did exactly the same.  It would appear to become "stuck" on a figure and would not budge.  I also tried driving the car hard to force the MPG down and still the figure remained the same!  A few minutes later, or perhaps next time I started the car, the MPG seemed to be operating correctly.  I just think its an electrical glitch rather than performance related.  If I reset the computer this also corrected the problem.  I never figured this out and have since sold the vehicle.

try disconnecting the battery if resetting doesn't work, make sure you have your radio code written down if applicable, usually sets it back to nought.

if that does not work you might have to take your instrument cluster out and give it a clean on the connections, use electrical cleaner, it's easy enough to do, it might come back on it's own though.

if you have a Haynes manual have a look at the wiring diagram, maybe you caught a wire or connection accidentally.
