air conditioning and cooling fan

Featured Replies

Hi all, this is my first ever post so lets hope I get it right.

I have a 2010 Mondeo estate tdci 140 zetec, and my question is, with the engine running, should the radiator cooling fan in the engine bay automatically come on when the air con is turned on, even if the engine has just been started from cold.

The air con works now after replacing the fated purple corroded wire and the fan control unit, but I am not sure if the fan should be on or not, as it doesn't come on with the air con, but the engine is cold so should it need to?

Best regards and any help would be very much appreciated.

Yes!

At least it does in every case I have heard of, it needs airflow to cool the a/c condenser.

Not sure why the fan is not running. As far as I know, the pcm commands it directly, and the pcm should know when the a/c is on, to maintain idle etc. (On the Focus, the pcm also controls the a/c clutch, so it must know when the a/c is on). Sounds a bit like there is still a fan fault.

Hi thank you for answering my question, and I suspect you are right, but someone else has mentioned that there are two fans on the mondeo, one is the main cooling fan and the other is smaller fan for the air conditioning pump / condenser, would you know if that is true, I will have another look tomorrow to see if I can find another fan. But thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Fan should come on fairly soon after switching air con on, even when cold. There may be a slight delay.

Mmmm OK I will try it again tomorrow to see if I leave the car running with the air con on and see if it does run.

Thanks for taking the time to respond I do appreciate it.
