MK4 2.5T Bad MPG

Featured Replies

I've recently purchased a MK4 Mondeo with the 2.5T engine.

No matter how sensible I drive it around town, I get no more than 20mpg on average. I had a Focus ST with the same engine and I'm sure that got around 27mpg around town.

The turbo seems to start spooling at around 1400rpm and it has lots of low end torque, there seems to be a flat spot at around 2000rpm, if this makes any difference?

Is this normal for the Mondeo with this engine, since it's heavier than the ST?

Assuming you're driving it similarly to when you had a Focus ST 225 then the difference seems about right (both seem a little low but it depends on how you drive and the type of journey i.e. stop start in lots of traffic isn't good for MPG).  The Mondeo is a lot bigger and heavier than the Focus so it's always going going to be worse on fuel when it's the same engine, same driving style, same journeys etc.

know someone with the same car /engine, car has done 263k and gets average 26mpg , lots of motorway driving as you can tell. so 20 wouldnt be not far off around town
