Engine malfunction light came on had it put on diagnostics at Stonacres. I bought car from there last year and have service contract and lifetime guarantee with them so thought best place to take it. They got errors re front shutters behind grill not working and exhaust after treatment glow plug circuit open. They told me it needed Ford dealers as they didn't know exactly what was going on.   Beginning to worry it is serious, any info would be appreciated.

Car is running fine. fuel consumption still fine, but light only came on Monday.

Funny sort of guarantee if every problem of the slightest complexity is not covered as it needs a Ford dealer!

The front shutter problem could be urgent if it is not opening when it should. It could lead to over heating. You should be able to see the shutter through the front grille (below the number plate, I think.) It should open when the engine fan is running, including when the a/c is on.

The exhaust treatment problem sounds like it may need a new fuel vaporisior, which is a device to heat up the DPF for regens. This is less urgent, though the DPF may clog to the state where it can not recover if too long elapses between regens.

If the fuse for the vaporisier has blown this would confirm the problem.

Seems like you need to find out exactly what is & is not covered by the guarantee. From what little I have heard about Stoneacres before, probably almost nothing!

I would always advise getting your own diagnostic system to check garage ideas. They are not expensive.
