robdalej Posted November 13, 2016 Share Posted November 13, 2016 Hi, have a ford mondeo mk 4 2008. ,most times it starts ok but every now and again it fails to fire up sraight away, onc e this happens then it becomes quite hard to start, the engine will turn over but not fire up,afer a few goes it will start, although seems reluctantly. .Have had the batter checked and confirmed as ok and a new starter motor motor fitted but still the same , anyone any ideas please, car has coverded 91 k Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Maybe air is getting into the fuel system. Usually (certainly on the Focus), there is no tank pump, the main pump has to suck fuel through, and it is very bad if any air gets into it. Cracks or leaks in the pipes up to the main pump, or in the filter housing, the filter vent valve or the sealing ring on the filter are all suspects. A clogged filter would make this problem worse. These engines should start ok without glowplugs, at least down to freezing. They just run a bit rough for a while. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
