reversing question and an unknown switch

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Brand new, shiny Ford Mondeo owner.  Love it.  I have a couple of questions, however.

1. When I put the car into reverse, it makes a rapid triple or quadruple beeping noise constantly, I don't think it's a sensor as a) I don't have a parking sensor button on the dashboard, and b) the graphic doesn't change on the console when reversing.  There do seem to be "holes" for sensors on the bodywork but I don't see any.  My mondeo is a 2007 2.0 TDCI Titanium X, should it have parking sensors?  How can I find out?

2.  there is a strange button on the dashboard.  It isn't in any of the manuals.  It doesn't seem to affect anything, however, when I switch it to the "1" or on position, it makes a double beeping noise of the same nature as the reverse noise, then nothing.  The reversing beeping still happens whether that button is switched or not.  I've included a picture of the button.IMG_20170205_153220.jpg

Thoughts welcome!

Thanks.

Go here https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

Type in your reg or VIN and it should provide details of what options came factory fitted to the car. If fitted it will have an entry along the lines of "With Rear Parking Aid" and/or "With Front Parking Aid".

That's switch doesn't look standard from what I've seen so maybe a third party option for something fitted by a previous owner.

That's great, thanks for the quick reply.  I've checked that site and yes, I don't have parking sensors :(  I guess the beeping noise is just a reverse gear warning.

That switch does worry me.  I wonder if that is classed as a "non-factory" fitting for insurance purposes.  I guess a garage should be able to chase it down and tell me what it's for..  doesn't seem to do anything whether off or on...

I know that when I fitted parking sensors to my previous cars I would install a switch to activate the front sensors as I didn't like them being activated via the brake light as the sensor kit instructions recommended. Has your car got sensors fitted on the front? get someone to walk up to the car without the switch on and then try it with it on? the other option is dose it have a power socket in the boot? sometimes people install a switch to prevent power drain if they leave the car with something plugged in. I know I am about to do it in mine as it saves trying to get to the socket if the boot is full, however I will fit mine to one side on top of the plastic trim in the boot.
