Water running off tailgate into boot

Featured Replies

I have a 2009 Mondeo Tit x sport and when I open the tailgate during or after rain water runs into the boot.

The edge of the rear screen has a rubber channel along both sides and the bottom, the problem is the water sits on the panel below the screen then runs down the side and off the edge into the boot area.

Has anyone resolved this issue?

I had this on two Octavia vRS Hatcbacks.
It appears to be a feature of Hatchbacks of this style.
The only solution I found was to use a sealant instead of a wax, then upon opening the boot. Just open it a very small amount,( 3 inches or so)
ans close it again quickly. This allowed the water to sheet off the car, then when I open it the most of it was gone so very little dripped into the boot rather than a half pint of it .

Thanks, was hoping for a better solution.

Will have to open carefully for the water to drain off first then.

Not much you can do about it to be honest.
The reason I suggested a sealant instead of wax is because water sheets off sealants better, whereas with wax it beads and sits on the surface.
I did see another agricultural solution on the Octavias back then.

Was this stuff >> Door edge protector
Which I simply would not use.
Others found it a super solution.

It looks like the issue is the water laying on the panel below the screen is running underneath the rubber sealing strip and into the boot.

This is due to the design.

As you can see the rubber has a gap between the panel itself, this is where the water runs then under the strip up the side of the screen.

I was thinking of putting some black mastic all the way along to force the water into actual channel.

I seem to recall that there is a modified rubber seal for this

I think it requires a new screen as well as it fits between the glass and the tailgate
