Car stopped running all of a sudden

Featured Replies

Hi guys hope someone can help me out with my 08 mondeo

Yesterday I was driving on the motorway and all of sudden I lost acceleration and enine had stopped running. Break down mechanic said it's the timing belt but the issue there is I only had the timing and wet belts changed last year @10700 miles and it was only serviced 2000 miles ago. Could it be the timing belt or another issue like the fuel pump.

Petrol or diesel?

Diesel I'd say try replacing the fuel filter they're not normally changed during a service and are prone to clogging up completely and causing lots of issues could be fuel pump though but I doubt it.

If you have a code reader or ELM Cable plug it in and get a read out.

Out of curiosity you had your timing belt done but did you pay to have the water pump replaced at the same time? I've heard of this happening to people that don't replace the pump too.

Thanks for the reply

It's a 1.8 TDCI. I had the fuel filter changed when it was serviced(bought parts myself) I don't think the water pump was changed could this be a major problem.

Top timing belt snapped aaaaaaaarrrrrrrhhhhhhhhh.  Would I be better doing an engine rebuild or buying a new engine.

Personally I'd buy another engine, a rebuild might not be worth it for a car of 2008 plenty of engines on eBay if you source a garage could fit it for you, unless you fancy the task yourself.

Was the top timing belt changed when you said you had your belt changed last year?

I would be considering my statutory rights with regards to paying for a belt which supposedly will last many more years than just one.
